Please read : As some of you know Gateshead council intend to put double yellow lines right through Winlaton village and make it 20mph with speed bumps! Now I don’t disagree with their intention or some of their ideas but we need your help - every one of you who ever try to park in the village, we want to COMPROMISE with the council so that we can move a lot of the cars to safe parking areas, slow the traffic down and make the village a safer place to walk and drive! My point is this - this is going to have a massive negative effect in the entire village Some shops will not survive this ridiculous idea. I’m not against all of yellow lines, just some of them- the council will not budge- I spoke to someone at the council 3 years ago when this was first suggested - yes 3 years - they have been planning this - how much has this cost - they would not listen to ideas then - If they do not agree to give us some additional, maintained, FREE parking in various sites (which is easily possible) then many shops will close - for sure - losing jobs - shop owners could go into liquidation - as the public will go to shop in Blaydon as you can park there easily for free There is a lot of grassed area around where parking could be provided (saving money on grass cutting) ie: opposite the commercial - this would help at the bottom end of the village for the vets, doctors, pharmacy, and all of the shops up to the the charity shop, we will only have approx 12 parking spaces down this end which serve 15 large and small businesses !!!!!!! Sorry for the long winded rant but it needs to be said Please help us by adding your comments and signing the partition in our shop and many others around the village Thank you for reading Susan
