Here is a review of last Saturday's concert - "Mountainface". 20TH JULY 2019 WKAC REVIEW – MOUNTAINFACE Two fantastic new talents in 8 days, we are spoiling you at West Kirby Arts Centre. The previous Friday WKAC welcomed local band “Full House”, last Saturday it was the turn of “Mountainface” to showcase their collective talents at this unique venue. Mountainface are based in Chester and have a loyal following in their home city. They met while studying at Chester College and they have gained a growing reputation for playing their own brand of contemporary folk. Their music is typified by thoughtful, original songs that are confidently delivered by front man, David Weir and featuring intricate mandolin and guitar interplay between Tom Winch and Matthew Youds. The intimate nature and perfect acoustics of WKAC perfectly complimented their set. This included mainly their own songs, each of which was nicely crafted and performed with sincerity and warmth. Many of these featured on their new EP, “Dead Lake”, copies of which went home with many members of the audience. However, they were also added some carefully chosen covers of songs by Dylan, the Band and others. So, in conclusion, Mountainface provided a very enjoyable evening of lovely songs, impressive vocals and harmonies as well as great playing. I wholeheartedly recommend that you check them out if they are playing near you and visit their Facebook page for updates.
