Handmade felt dogs by artist Sophie Wheatley using natural sheep fleece On my Facebook page you can view my current collection of needle felt dogs on sale, see those which have found new homes and where you can also commission a needle felt dog of your very own.

Each dog is lovingly handmade over several days, giving me time to capture their character and detailed features.  I use naturally coloured wool from different sheep breeds to perfect each dogs markings, which makes them strikingly realistic.

These needle felt dogs make beautiful gifts for dog lovers to treasure and will last a life time as a wonderful keepsake of a beloved friend.  If you have a question about a commission or one of my dogs, I would love to hear from you

Previous post corrected! I have indeed finished all of my commissions - most are likely tucked under Christmas trees around the country as we speak! It's been a long month. I'm really tired! Lol!

This is the only one of 14 xmas commissions I can show you that I've completed in the lead up to the big day. Little Parker, tiny but perfectly formed. Have a wonderful and relaxing holiday season wherever you are in the world. I'll see you again in the New Year!

Sometimes great things come from little mistakes. I was dyeing some wool and thought by adding a little turmeric this would boost my dwindling dye supply. It was a neon disaster which I managed to advert by over-dying with a darker dye. The result ended up being just what I needed for a little Welsh terrier. Phew!!

Due to an unprecedented amount of orders over the past 24 hrs, I have now closed my order book for Christmas, but you can still buy a gift certificate to give a commission to the dog lover in your life!

So proud of my little terrier making it into the Sunday Times Style magazine. Look he's next to a Louis Vuitton dog bag! http://www.thetimes.co.uk/magazine/style/gift-guide-for-furry-friends-g8kgfrhbt

Friday comes round quick! One tip that I've learned by mistake, is the value of photographing your work to check your progress. It's amazing how different you will see your model/art in a photo. Something might jump out that doesn't look quite right - or it might just be perfect! Have a go if you're struggling to see what's not going quite right.

Jubilee, named after the Silver Jubilee in 1977. He's my first golden Labrador can you believe that? Here his model is looking wistfully towards the rainy window earlier today.

Needle Felting tip Tuesday. If you are just starting out and the thought of working around a whole wire armature is daunting - maybe you've broken all your needles already? Instead wrap your wire around the body or your basic shape to make arms/legs. Attach it in place with wool, and work down the wire adding wool as you go. I use this process every time - there are no rules, so just see what works!

Forget colouring in... new way to beat stress is playing with felt!

Needle Felting has made it into the headlines for an activity that beats stress! They neglect to mention the RSI, tense shoulders and constant flow of blood from regularly stabbed fingers! Lol!

Remember the sausage I started working on last week? Here it is finished. Pip died over 15 years ago and I think it's lovely that somehow a little bit of her memory is now physically here, in the here and now. There's something special about that which I like. I work on many commemorative models that I hope keep those memories alive :)
