Matt was called out to see one of the Queens horses yesterday. It was all part of the Kearsley scarecrow weekend. This was the part of the winning scarecrow. Helen who owns Shoreside stables did an amazing job with her entry and was very well deserved.
Jenny will be going off to have a baby in the near future (exciting!) so we are letting all our clients know that physio sessions need to be booked in before the end of October. Whilst she is off we will be happy to recommend an alternative therapist and provide them with previous report’s. Jenny will be returning to us next Spring/Summer. Watch this space for baby pics!
Please note the new number is up and working. 01942 733989

Cake Friday has gone above and beyond today. Our visiting vet student Will has topped the list for the best Friday treat with this fantastic decorated cake. It would be a shame to eat it but we all love cake!

EQUINE ACUPUNCTURE - Acupuncture has been used in human medicine for thousands of years. More recently, research has shown a scientific basis behind the process, which has put it firmly in place as a credible complementary therapy in horses. Acupuncture involves the insertion of very narrow needles into the body with the purpose of modifying disease and providing potential pain relief by modulating the nervous system. Acupuncture needles stimulate nerves in the skin and muscle and increase the body’s release of endorphins and serotonin. These neuro-transmitters have the potential to act upon pain pathways of the nervous system which can result in pain relief! Acupuncture is not a ‘miracle cure’, it isn’t going to get rid of arthritic joints or tendon damage but it is a valuable aid when used alongside other veterinary treatment or when more traditional treatments have failed. In horses it can be used to treat a number of conditions in horses: including muscular spasm throughout the body, especially neck and spinal pain, chronic arthritic processes such as spavin and ringbone, as well as temporo-mandibular joint tension (jaw pain) which can be a cause of schooling issues. Success can also sometimes be seen with cases of recurrent colic or diarrhoea and chronic respiratory disease such as COPD/RAO. Our very own Stevan Orrell and Jenny Creak are both qualified Equine Acupuncturists and as such the practice can provide assessment of and tailor made treatment protocols for your horse. If you would like more information or to book your horse in for an initial consultation and treatment then please call/email the office on. 01925 818100 / info@orrell-equine.co.uk

We all know horses can make some 'unusual' friendships; this was the scene one of our vets came across the other day on a call-out. Check out handsome Riley and his pal.... a hen!!!
