Tynemouth Watch House Garden Cycle Hub
Description
The Watch House Garden - Tynemouth Cycle Hub The potential Tynemouth Watch House Garden Cycle Hub development will be located on the headland at the Tynemouth Spanish Battery directly to the east of the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade (TVLB).
The location is at the end of the Coast to Coast Cycle Route, start of the Coast to Castle Route, on route 1 of the National Cycle Network, and the finish of the Great North Bike Ride. Currently there is no infrastructure to provide a warm and welcoming finish to a significant achievement... We want to change this!
The Coast really is spectacular in this area and we hope to encourage leisure in the form of cycling and fitness any way we can.
We have developed the design in such a way that the building will be below the ground with no point of the building being above 1.2M in height of the current ground level. Thus preventing any obstruction to and from the TVLB Watch House.
As the current parking around the residents area is already highly restrictive, the only access to the building would be by use of the footpath to the eastern side of the plot.

facebook.comThank you all for your positivity, we are truly blown-away by the amount of daily messages and offers of support. The video below shows just how low impact the Hub will be whilst ensuring you enjoy the views out to sea and along the last mile of the C2C. If you like the concept, please get behind us on the Planning Portal at the following link. It takes to minutes to click support and leave a few words. Thanks once again, TWHG
For real facts rather than conjecture and scaremongering please see www.watchhousegarden.com. We will increase the green space open to the general public, the garden you can see in the image will be open for all… not just the few! We will also provide a decked viewing area overlooking the mouth of the Tyne that you won’t actually be able to see from anywhere atop the battery, we are converting a tiny private garden over to public use. The main Spanish Battery area will remain UNTOUCHED and open to visitors as normal. There are no public ‘quiet’ places that currently exist that will be effected. This area is NOT a quiet place. 5186 people passed the site over one weekend. Vehicular traffic will decrease... This is not a Car-Hub. We will provide a community focused development and gateway amenity for the THOUSANDS of people who visit this area every year. We will also celebrate the end of the UK's most popular Cycle route the C2C (15,000 a year according to SUSTRANS), rather than loose out to Sunderland. As the development does not have any elevation above ground level, views will remain intact. You WILL NOT be able to see the building from 95% of the Battery (only the lower promenade on the Tyne). You can’t please everyone…. But we hope the vocal protestations of a few should not ruin things for the wider community and region as a whole. Lets not chase away investment in our local area and economy. Please lend your support and make your voice heard at the North Tyneside Council Planning Portal. Why not leave some positive comments. https://idoxpublicaccess.northtyneside.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=neighbourComments&keyVal=OS7K9WBHMZP00 *Please note: Full ecology and archeology surveys have been conducted (Archeological report by Durham University). Unsurprisingly the man-made embankment was free of wildlife and archeological importance.

Any investment in an area needs to be respectful of it's context. Support our proposal:
We've proposed a design that is respectful and sensitive from all angles. Take a look!
The Spanish Battery has such a rich and diverse history and heritage. Concern for the visual impact to and from the iconic Spanish Battery has been at the forefront of our design proposal over the last twelve months. We have been emphatically adamant that this amazing area would maintain such an important part of its heritage, whilst having a considerate modern design that would complement it's illustrious history. When visitors to the area today are greeted by green open space, they remain blissfully unaware that the deceptively lush headland is a cover for it's robust concrete foundation. For under the beautiful headland lies the concrete bunkers and ammunition stores of it's treasured history. Support us as we develop and invest in this cherished area. *image credited to 'Save Our Spanish Battery'*
Let's get behind this guys! Great stuff from Surfers Against Sewage. 👌
