******* Belhaven rock The Stirling Bull Sales 2018 ******* The Belhaven Aberdeen Angus team enjoyed tremendous success at the world famous Stirling bull sales, both at the show on Sunday the 4th of February and the sale on Monday the 5th. Starting on Sunday morning (show day) competing against 178 bulls from all over Great Britain and Ireland. Our 5 strong bull team consisted of 'Belhaven Dundee', 'Belhaven Dallas Cowboy' (We LOVE this name!), 'Belhaven Iconic', 'Belhaven El Conquistador' and the baby of the team 'Belhaven El Burladero', achieved early success. 'Dundee' was picked out as Reserve Senior Champion, a great feeling for all the team to see him awarded this elite honour. Further success followed! El Conquistador was 2nd in his class of 12. El Burladero was 2nd in his class of 12. Dallas Cowboy was 3rd in his class out of 10. After the individual judging we progressed to the hotly contested team competitions, in a fiercely competitive event, Belhaven triumphed in The Blue Riband event for the 'Haymount Challenge Cup' awarded for the champion team of 2 bulls, 'Dundee' and 'El Burladero' proving an irresistible combination for the judge Alan Morrison. Yet more was to follow - The silver Challenge cup for the best of 3 bulls .......Belhaven Champions again. And lastly the Downsbragh Cup for the best team of 5 bulls, yes, victory again for a truly superb team of bulls. A great day for everyone associated with The Belhaven Aberdeen Angus Herd! And so on to the Monday sale, conducted by United Auctions and lead buy by their ever popular auctioneer John Roberts. Belhaven Dundee was our first bull into the auction ring, expertly handled by master stocksman Richard Rettie. Dundee was sold to the Stevenson family, Home Farm, Norfolk for 6,000gns. Next up was Belhaven Dallas Cowboy (they were queing up to bid for this one) he was sold for 8,200 guineas and destined to work for Mountquhanie Farms near Cupar, FIfe. Belhaven Iconic followed Dallas Cowboy and kept up the good work by selling for 4,800gns. He gets ready to cross the sea for his life with W & S Campbell, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. Then a wee breathing space before El Conquistador was made ready for the ring by the team. He attracted a final bid of 7,000gns from father and son Mark & Dougie Ross from Wester Middleton, a renowned livestock farm on the Moorfoot hills. And lastly, the much admired, Belhaven El Burladero. Powerful, stylish and blessed with a gorgeous refined head, he raced through the bids, before being 'knocked down' to father and son Alastair and Scott Bell from Kirkton farm, Hawick. 10,000gns was this young bulls price. Our thanks to everyone who bought our Belhaven bulls. We wish them every success. The Belhaven Aberdeen Angus Herd is the cattle breeding section of J Gilmour Co. Ltd. It is entirely looked after by Richard and Carol Rettie at Methven, Perthshire. The cows are calved, cleaned, fed, watered and supervised at least 2 times every day. The calves are hand fed and nurtured, combined with the highest quality husbandry and care. The Retties are at the forefront of cattle breeding and consultancy in the U.K - experts in their field.
