ITEC Qualified and fully insured Equine Sports Massage Therapist treating horse and also rider. ABOUT ME
I am an ITEC qualified Equine Sports Massage therapist covering Devon and Cornwall, also treating the rider aswell as their horse. I have been fortunate enough to be trained by the world renowned Veterinary Physiotherapist, Mary Bromiley, which I can safely say has been the highlight of my equine career.
For many years I worked within the racing industry internationally before returning to Engalnd, where I worked as veterinary nurse in a busy equine and small animal hospital.
My experience within the equine industry ranges from working in racing to veterinary work, eventing and polo.

Following the lead of human athletic training, equine massage therapy is becoming a more common part of the management of equine athletes and pleasure horses alike. The basic science rationale for massage is supported by research indicating that massage may affect a number of physiologic systems as well as cellular and fascial components of the muscular system. Equine therapeutic massage, or sports massage, employs a number of techniques first developed in humans and has been reported to increase range of motion and stride length, reduce activity of nociceptive pain receptors, and reduce physiologic stress responses. Additional preliminary research indicates that massage therapy also may improve some aspects of exercise recovery. Although important evidence has begun to document the potential benefits of massage therapy for equine athletes, the current review may say less about the true clinical effects of massage therapy than it does about the current state of research in this field. Additional prospective study of massage therapy using sufficient scientific rigor will be necessary to provide veterinarians, trainers, and owners with definitive data and scientifically based confidence in the use of equine massage. In the meantime, the preliminary research, anecdotal positive effects, and case studies indicating potential benefit are not to be ignored; equine massage therapy already plays a valuable practical role in the care and training of many equine athletes.

I am very excited to introduce my new sponsored rider Ellie Wilson and her pony Jerome. Ellie is only 14 and is already achieving results that most of us would only dream of. Looking forward to being part of the team, roll on 2017! "I am extremely pleased to receive the opportunity to be sponsored by Tamara Hick Equine Sports Massage Therapist. To have the support and experience of Tamara, ensuring both I and my pony Jerome will be in the most supple and physically prepared state ahead of our competitions will be fantastic. My focus this year will be on competing in dressage at Medium level Dressage and Pony FEI at British Dressage High Profile Show. Along with trying to gain qualification to the Summer National Championships. My longer term goal is to represent Great Britain in the Pony teams, and having this sponsorship opportunity focusing on our wellbeing will be invaluable."
