COMMON SENSE WINS THE DAY! We have today received a report in respect of the application made under Section 15 (1) of the Commons Act 2006 to register land known as Sully Sports Fields as a Town or Village Green. The application was made by the Saving Sully Group and Sully & Lavernock Community Council. The enquiry was held from Monday 29th January to Thursday 1st February 2018. The applicants had 19 local residents give evidence and the Club in response had 5 witnesses. The crux of their argument was that people within the village of Sully use our Sports Pitches for walking their dogs or any other recreational activity they wish. During the 4-day hearing pro-forma evidence was submitted by the Open Spaces Society. These Questionnaires filled in by the applicants supported in many cases the Sports Clubs case that they knew walking on our land with dogs is unacceptable and apart from one person, was not condoned by any person who attended the hearing. The result is that Mr James P Marwick the inspector who chaired the enquiry came out in favour of the Sully Sports and Social club and turned application down said in his report that he was not convinced by the arguments put forward by the applicants. We are extremely pleased that the Village Green application has been thwarted and stopped dead in its tracks and common sense has prevailed. We would like to reiterate our thanks to all those who attended the enquiry. The club is disappointed at the actions of some people who attempted to discredit the evidence of the club secretary which was not upheld by the Inspector. We would remind ALL DOG OWNERS that they should stick to the public foot path and not allow their dogs onto our land. We do this to protect our sportsmen, sportswoman and particularly our young children who train regularly on our sports grounds. Also, anyone who wishes to run, walk or enter our land must do so only with permission from the Club Secretary. Local people are very welcome, as is everyone to attend our car boot sales, our classic car rallies or any of the many yearly events the club puts on or hosts. In challenging the application to change the status of the football, rugby and training pitches to Village Green status made by the Saving Sully Group and Sully & Lavernock Community Council, the club now faces significant legal fees. This money could have been better spent supporting our sports teams and the club’s excellent youth policy. The Management committee would like to thank all those that attended the 4 day hearing and supported the club during the enquiry process and those that represented the club.
