Homemade play dough recipe you’ll need to mix, in a large bowl: 2 cups of plain flour 1 cup of salt 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil Then give your play dough an autumnal twist by adding in some spices. I made four bowls of the play dough mix and added a different spice to each: grated cloves, ground ginger, ground cinnamon and grated nutmeg. Add to a table full of autumnal items such as conkers, leaves, pines etc and let the children explore.

Does anyone else know of any schools doing this? Do you think it's a good idea? I'd love to see it in action.

We are a few weeks into the new school year now and I am already hearing from NQT's and experienced teachers that they are feeling overwhelmed by their workloads! The best advice I can give anyone feeling like this is firstly take a step back. You are now not working productively so you need to stop and re-think your strategies. Speak to friends, family, colleagues about what they do and get some good tips. (Remember everyone works differently so what works for someone might not work for you. You will find your own way!) Prioritse jobs. Daily jobs such as marking books are a number one job compared to checking emails. Anything to do with the children will be a priority. Each term in a school generally works on a cycle of activities so find out what this is and prepare for larger time consuming activities such as learning environments, assessment and MTP in advance. Most schools will also have parents evening before the end of the first half term so start building your notes as you go and plan lessons that require less marking that week. You do not want to have an extended writing activity, a school trip, assessments, after school club etc... on a parents evening week! Just remember teachers always have a list of jobs and never get to the end of them so do not beat yourself up about it. Make sure that your classroom is working for your children and with good preparation the rest will fall in to place.
