Cracked heels..... Mainly due to excessive build up of hard skin. They can also be due to a thyroid problem, lack of essential fats, prolonged standing and open backed shoes. Eat Zinc rich foods (almonds, brown rice, lentils, seeds), Magnesium rich foods( dark leafy vegetables, cashews bananas, prunes, oats, brown rice ) and more oily fish. Remedies include breaking open a vitamin E capsule and applying to the area. 3gms of omega-3 essential fats daily if your skin is dry. Avoid thick creams on the fissures which can sit on the skin and make the problem worse. A good cream for extra dry skin should be applied twice daily especially before going to bed. Soak your feet daily in soapy water for 15 minutes then use a good pumice stone on the thick skin of your heels. Apply cream and put on cotton socks.
