Bright Futures works with young women aged 11-25 around a range of issues to raise their self esteem and confidence.
Bright Futures (Registered Charity No:1148945) work with young women aged 11-25 to give them a brighter future by raising their self-esteem and confidence around a range of issues which affect them including alcohol and substance misuse, sexual health and relationships, homelessness, family relationships, friendships, school, education, training, crime and anti-social behaviour. We provide a range of innovative work with young women within their communities in order to give them safe and interesting things to do on evenings and at weekends.

We use a range of detached and outreach work in geographical areas identified as hotspots for alcohol misuse and anti-social behaviour. We engage young women in a range of educational, volunteering and social activities, giving them safe places to go and things to do ensuring that they have opportunities to make a positive contribution within their communities.

Bright Futures takes a holistic approach to addressing the needs of the young women we work with. We offer young women the opportunity to take part in a wide range of varied project activities:

• We are an accredited centre with the Open College Network, which enables us to offer a wide range of qualified courses not only to the young women we work with but also the wider community. These courses include vocational qualifications as well as qualifications that can increase the health and wellbeing of young women including a 10 session Alcohol and Risks Toolkit developed and accredited by Bright Futures.

• We work in secondary schools across South Tyneside delivering the Alcohol and Risks Toolkit to young women in years 10 and 11 and also delivering health and wellbeing drop-ins on lunchtimes and after school.

• We offer young women the opportunity to take part in educational group work sessions using interactive and engaging resources to make the sessions we deliver fun and suitable for all abilities.

• We have developed and deliver a range of programmes aimed at increasing young women’s awareness of living a healthier lifestyle covering basic life skills for example healthy cooking on a budget and also offering opportunities to try different sports and fitness activities that they wouldn't normally have the opportunity to get involved in.

• We work with a number of statutory and voluntary partner organisations including Northumbria Police, NHS and treatment providers. Bright Futures are a centre for C Card; we distribute condoms and offer and advice and guidance relating to sexual health and healthy relationships, the services we deliver are tracked throughout Tyne and Wear by the NHS. We also offer Chlamydia screening and information and advice on other sexually transmitted infections.

• We give young women and others in the community the chance to gain skills and experience through the volunteering and peer education opportunities we offer. Peer educators are involved in delivering educational group worker sessions and the Alcohol and Risks Toolkit. Volunteers are also involved in the delivery of education sessions but also the day to day running of the project.

CAKE SALE TOMORROW AT THE SUTTON HALL! 🍰🧁 ‘Here4You' is a group of young people taking part in NCS in South Tyneside hoping to break the stigma around mental health. We will be holding a bake sale at Sutton Hall from 3.45-4.45 tomorrow facilitated by Bright Futures to raise funds for the equiptment we will need for our project which is to renovate the Customs Space. We have chosen to paint a mural on a wall within the building to communicate to the young people using the facilities that it is okay to not be okay and we will also be advertising helplines for those struggling with their mental health. The funds raised by our bake sale will go towards resources for the mural but also towards any equiptment needed in order to help Customs Space with everything they need us to do to help renovate the building aswell as the outside area. We hope our project will help spread the message that there is help out there for those who need it and will encourage young people to make the most of the facilities available.
