➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ THERE'S NO 'I' IN TEAM ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Continuing to work towards their Teamwork Challenge Awards, our BEAVERS, CUBS & SCOUTS took advantage of the lovely weather and got wet and wild with water-based activities! BEAVERS & CUBS gave their all in the hilarious sponge relay game, working in their lodges and packs to win the contest - inevitably some got a bit carried away and started aiming their wet sponges at their fellow Scouts and Leaders! Meanwhile the SCOUTS had an epic 10th Slough Hunger Games Water Fight today using weapons such as foam water blasters, water bombs and wet sponges! They epitomised strategy, flair, skill & teamwork, and all fought valiantly till the watery end - May the odds be ever in their favour! (Our leaders couldn't resist getting involved in the wetness today, so please excuse the lack of pictures this week) [Ziggy - 10th Slough Scouts Leader]

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ ASTRONAUTICS CAMP 2018 ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ The SCOUTS blasted off this Saturday, rocketing themselves towards earning their Astronautics Badge, before slowly drifting back into orbit on Sunday, to conclude what was an out-of-this-world experience (...sorry!) The children were first treated to a unique STEM Workshop (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) run by a renowned UK Civil Engineer. The challenge: design and build an innovative Astronautics shelter, large enough for 6, using only newspapers! The creativity and ingenuity shown may well be the birth of a new generation of Engineers. Inbetween preparing and cooking themselves (and the leaders!) meals, the SCOUTS were also treated to a 'Journey through the Stars' - using state of the art Telescopes and Virtual Reality equipment - to learn about and observe the night's sky! All in all an EPIC camp, which as the SCOUTS ran semi-independently, they should be incredibly proud of! [Simba - 10th Slough Scouts Leader]

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ PACKING FOR ALL OCCASIONS ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ - 08/04/18 - In preparation for next week's EPIC Astronautics Camp, the SCOUTS practised the deceptively simple-sounding art of Bag Packing! Given an abundance of kit and a range of challenging scenarios (from a weekend Camp in humid conditions, to a Night Hike in the pouring rain!), the children had to select and pack their bags appropriately - justifying every item they put in or left out! Tied into this, was the importance of knowing in which conditions certain items are suitable and when they are most certainly not! Be that the difference between wool and cotton clothing, or an 80L Rucksack versus a 30L Day Bag. [Simba - 10th Slough Scouts Leader]

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ INTERNATIONAL COOKERY ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ - 25/03/18 - The mouth-watering conclusion to our BEAVER and CUBS' International Badge today saw the children cook and eat some exciting and previously unheard of food! As part of the Badge, our children have also had the unique privilege of sending and receiving gifts with a Scouts Group in Poland! The letters and gifts our chn sent, were happily received, and today we saw the reaction video of moment the Polish children opened our letters! -------------------------------------------- BLACKOUT ACTIVITIES -------------------------------------------- 10th Slough's SCOUTS are excitedly preparing for their long-awaited Astronautics Camp next month, with special preparation towards their 'Blackout' Activity Challenge - games which, on Camp, will be played in total darkness! ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ SADAQAH DAY 2018 pt.1 ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ - 18/03/18 - Giving back to community: whether it's giving some physical goods, giving your time or even a sincere smile; "giving back" is a rewarding and invaluable trait. Today our CUBS and BEAVERS learnt different ways of giving Sadaqah, making unique and artistic personalised mugs which are set to be donated to a local homeless charity, who are in much need of such basics. The children also made 'Blessings Bags' to be distributed to our town's displaced, which include, amongst other things, basic sanitary goods. [Bagheera - 10th Slough Scouts Leader] -------------------------------------------- SCOUTS LAUNCH OFF -------------------------------------------- 10th Slough's SCOUTS started a new badge today, which is literally out of this world! The Astronautics Badge will give the children the opportunity to explore various aspects of space travel, planetary comparisons and even the fascinating daily life of astronauts! The children today, looked at one particular area of interest and then also developed their presentation skills, reporting back go the Troop. Fun Fact #1 - Food lacking flavour up on the International Space Station? Well the Astronauts on the ISS can whip out their liquidised salt n pepper, to give their food a little kick! ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ SCOUTS GO INTERNATIONAL pt.2 ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ - 11/03/18 - Continuing their exciting International Badge, CUBS and BEAVERS became experts in a country of their choosing - using their new found-knowledge to then make mini-plays and present back to the Troop! With this amazing badge also comes the amazing opportunity to learn eye-opening facts such as: our Scouts here in England, are one of amongst 200 other countries who also take part in Scouting! ----------------------------------------------- BACK 2 BASICS: KNIFEWORK ----------------------------------------------- 10th Slough's SCOUTS built upon the Saw and Knifework skills they were introduced to last week, and learnt exciting new techniques and uses for their equipment! The children are now better able to select appropriate wood, whittle sticks and batton to split wood! [Simba - 10th Slough Scouts Leader]

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ BACK2BASICS: KNIFEWORK 101 ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ - 04/03/18 - With great power, comes great responsibility! The eldest of 10th Slough's scouts developed the foundations of using some vital pieces of Scouting equipment - the Knife and Saw! Learning how to use such equipment safely and effectively, turns them from being seen as toys to being seen as tools. The SCOUTS learnt about different types and uses of knives and saws - eventually applying these skills in a special Whittling Competition! --------------------------------------------- SCOUTS GO INTERNATIONAL --------------------------------------------- The CUBS and BEAVERS started their eagerly awaited new badge...'The International Activity Badge,' in which for the first time our children made contact with another scouts group all the way in Poland! They learnt about the culture and heritage of other countries and wrote about themselves in their customised 'passports' before sealing it into a parcel ready to be shipped internationally! In the parcel, the CUBS and BEAVERS also gifted the Poland Scout group with items that represented 10th Slough Scouts and Great Britain. [Simba - 10th Slough Scouts Leader]

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ The Big Charity GRAND TOTAL! ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ A sincere thank you to everyone who aided 10th Slough with our Winter Walk Charity Project - all the Children, Leaders, Parents, wider supporters and well wishers! We aimed to develop in the Children an empathy for anyone less well-off than them, and for them to taste the sweetness in sincere charity. For the 4th year running, it has been a humbling and fantastic success - we have all raised the bar yet again (last year we raised smashed even the previous year, to raise £4,000!). This year we raised.... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 🎉 GRAND TOTAL = £6,500 🎉 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - [Simba - 10th Slough Scouts Leader] Colin Nell UK Muslim Scout Fellowship Muslim Hands Shaukat Warraich #WinterWalk2017

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ SCOUT'S STITCHED UP ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ - 25/02/18 - Parent's rejoice! With our children overflowing with the badges awarded in our recent ceremony, what better skill to strengthen than that of stitching! Thankfully all the leaders are trained professionals... BEAVERS, CUBS and SCOUTS developed this basic, yet usefull life skill - the importance of which is oft lost amongst children today. Fingers crossed there will be no more lost badges or badge-free uniforms from now on! [Simba - 10th Slough Scouts Leader]

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ The Big Charity Count Up! (1/2) ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ - 18/02/18 - The moment our whole 10th Slough Family had been waiting for! Today we counted up every last penny which had been donated towards our EPIC Charity Project. SCOUTS, CUBS and BEAVERS fresh from the success of their Charity Winter Walk last week, today got together to present back to the Group about their experience. The presentations were heartfelt, humorous and informative - but largely, testament to how deeply they felt about their Charity cause. These past two months our children have been: learning the value of selfless giving, making gifts to put smiles on unexpecting faces, collecting sponsorships and have undertaken the '5 Mile Winter Walk Challenge' with thousands of others in Hyde Park, London! The Grand Total will be announced next week....if you wish to sneak in a last minute donation, please visit: http://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/10th-slough-scs-scouts [Simba - 10th Slough Scouts Leader]
