Scarborough Armed Forces Day
Description
Scarborough Armed Forces Day - Supporting the Armed Forces Past, Present and Future. In 2013 an estimated 30,000 people flocked to Scarborough’s South bay to see a stunning display by The Red Arrows, The Battle of Britain Memorial flight and RAF Sea King Fly past, not to mention a military precision landing on the beach from over 10,00ft by the Ravens Parachute display Team. As the sun shone visitors were treated to the delightful sounds of the Yorkshire Volunteer’s band and the poignant Veteran’s parade.
Scarborough is proud to take part in the national Armed Forces Day (AFD) to raise public awareness and highlight the outstanding contribution made to our country by those who serve and have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. The event gives the town and the whole borough the opportunity to ‘show your support’ and say thank you to the men and women of the Armed Forces community, which includes serving personnel and their families, veterans and the cadet forces.
The sixth annual Scarborough Armed Forces Day in 2014 aims to woo the crowds back to the seafront promising a bigger and better event. In conjunction with AFD a very special concert; ‘Last Night of the Proms’ presented by Aled Jones, featuring Laura Wright, Only Men Allowed and Military Wives Choir will be held at Scarborough Open Air theatre in the evening.
