Always nice to get feedback from a serving Lieutenant Colonel of the British Army "This year I have completed a few long distance events including an ultra marathon, Man vs Horse mountain marathon and am training for IM Wales. Throughout John Rothery has been there to address various injuries I have picked up and his advice and practical application of rehab techniques have been first class. To date he has kept me on the road and allowed me to achieve some PB's as well. The techniques he uses such as wet cupping and the graston tool have really worked for me and I would recommend him to anyone who has an injury stopping them training or achieving their best. Saw him today for a session prior to the LCW and again treatment was first class. Highly recommended."

EXERCISING for just 45 minutes a week can relieve arthritis, a study has found. Even just pushing a shopping trolley could be the key to tackling the disabling condition.Around 10 million people in the UK suffer every day with the symptoms of arthritis. And the research showed that older people need only a third of the exercise previously recommended. Study author Professor Dorothy Dunlop, of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in the US, said: “Even a little activity is better than none. “For those older people suffering from arthritis who are minimally active, a 45-minute minimum might feel more realistic. THE WEATHER FACIAL ?? From reducing puffiness to clearing your pores, 4 ways the COLD WEATHER boosts your skin. 1/Cold air might be notorious for drying out your skin, but it turns out there are some benefits too Cold weather also slows down and prevents the secretion of sebum, which waterproofs the skin and hair, keeping shine at bay and reducing acne. 2/It also improves your sleep Getting a good night’s sleep is vital for skin health. 3.It reduces circles under the eyes and makes sure your complexion stays glowing. Coldness mimics the body’s natural drop in internal temperature, which occurs around two hours after we hit the sack. Therefore, most sleep scientists believe that a slightly cool room contributes to a full night’s rest. Think of the rejuvenating effect of splashing your face with cold water in the morning – it keeps your skin tight, vibrant and radiant. Well, the cold weather works in the same way. It’s why cold showers benefit the skin. Cold water tightens...

The difference between an osteopath, chiropractor and a physiotherapist is…. A question I am often asked is ‘what is the difference between an osteopath, a chiropractor and a physiotherapist and who would be the best person for me to see?’ Here is my attempt at a simple answer which I hope makes sense, but if there is anything you are not sure about please feel free to contact me for more information. Osteopath, Chiropractor, Physiotherapist? I have had to make some generalisations here so let me apologise to all of the therapists who read this and say ‘but that’s not what I do!’ This summary is aimed at helping people understand a bit more about how we work so post your comments if I have missed something fundamental about the way you practice, as anything that increases understanding can only be a good thing. The first thing to point out is that anyone using the title osteopath, chiropractor or physiotherapist is a highly-trained healthcare professional that has undergone 3 – 5...

Alkaline Diet ??? This diet is based on the idea that modern diets cause our body to produce too much acid. The theory is excess acid in the body is turned into fat and high acidity has been blamed on conditions such as arthritis, osteoporosis, tiredness and kidney and liver disorders. The diet involves cutting back on acid-producing foods such as meat, wheat and other grains, refined sugar, dairy products, caffeine, alcohol and processed foods in favour of “alkaline foods”, which reduce the body’s acidity levels. This translates into plenty of fruit and vegetables. It was originally developed to help prevent kidney stones and urine infections by using diet to adjust the acidity levels in the urine, but there is little evidence to support the diet’s more recent health claims. Pros: The diet contains plenty of good healthy eating advice, such as cutting down on meat, avoiding sugar, alcohol and processed foods, and eating more fruit and veg, nuts, seeds and legumes. This...

SYMPTOMS of deadly meningitis can easily be mistaken for a hangover, a charity has warned. The Meningitis Research Foundation is urging people to look out for the symptoms in family and friends, especially teenagers and young adults who are in a high risk age group, during winter. Teenagers and young adults are more likely to carry the meningococcal bacteria in their nose and throat and can spread it to others during close contact in packed social spaces like pubs and clubs. Many of them will be unknowingly carrying the bacteria which can cause serious illness. It is thought that the bacteria are able to invade the body more easily via the nose and throat during winter due to recent infection with flu virus. Scientists have also recently shown that adolescents are more likely to be carrying higher numbers of these bacteria in their throats in winter, meaning the party season is peak season for the disease. www.rotheryhealth.com #meningitis #health #pembrokeshire...

There is no limit to how much you can eat on this plan’s four phases, provided you stick to the rules. During phase one you are on a strict lean protein diet, which includes chicken, turkey, eggs, fish and fat-free dairy, This phase lasts for five days. Unlike the Atkins diet, Dukan’s phase one bans vegetables and seriously restricts fat. The next three phases of the plan see the gradual introduction of some fruit, veg and carbs, and eventually all foods. The aim is gradual weight loss of up to 2 pounds a week and to promote long-term weight management. There’s no time limit to the final phase, which involves having a protein-only day once a week and taking regular exercise. Pros: You can lose weight very quickly to begin with, which can be motivating. It is very strict, which some people like, and it is easy to follow. Apart from keeping to low-fat, low-salt and high-protein foods, there’s no restriction on how much you can eat during your first two weeks. Cons: The...

BRITS put on a total of 19.5 million STONES in December of 2016 a (BHF survey found ) 😳 So here are 4 benefits of cardio exercise- 1/BENEFITS IMPROVED HEART HEALTH The first one is an improved condition of your heart. Your heart is a muscle just like any other and in order for it to become strong it must be worked. If you fail to work it, it will weaken over time and this can cause a variety of negative health effects. 2/INCREASED METABOLISM Another reason to perform cardio is for its effects on the metabolism. Generally speaking, the more intense the cardio session, the more noticeable increase you will see with regards to your metabolic rate. Intense interval sprints (also known as HIIT) increase the metabolism; the highest with a process called EPOC (Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption). An increased metabolism...
