facebook.comUnfettered colour... a typical nook at the Nielanell studio shop in Hoswick. We're open every day during the summer season: Mon-Sat, 10-5; Sun 11-4. Laurence Odie Knitwear is a few doors down (open Mon-Sat). AND the Hoswick Visitor Centre & cafe is open daily. Lovely walks around the bay, too. Come and join us! The view from along the road... beautiful shapes in the sea at Hoswick bay.
Some colour outside, in the studio garden. Thanks to all of you who have been popping by, and keeping Team Nielanell very busy indeed!
What do you wear to The Queen's Garden Party? Nielanell, of course! Clair, of this parish, bumped into Fiona Toulouse (customer and tour guide par excellence) at Holyroodhouse - the Queen's official residence in Scotland. It looks as though they had coordinated their outfits in advance! Delighted to see this, and lovely to know that there were two ladies who brought some Nielanell colour to the Palace.
Go West. We've not been able to say anything about this til now... BUT... tonight in Portland, Oregon there is going to be the 'premiere' of some very special, new Niela knits. An exciting collaboration between artists in different materials, the cape shown is part of a new collection - The Byre Collection - inspired by the work of architect and glass artist Karlyn Sutherland. Instigator of all this is Lani of Bullseye Glass Co. - where tonight's show is being held. Excited to hear what you think; the pieces will be available to order later in the year. Made in Shetland, and beautifully photographed in Shetland (last week!) by Austin Taylor Photography
Niela knits often fly the coop to new homes far, far from Shetland. It's lovely to see how they adapt to new climates... especially when the story is as good as this! Thank you to the two Alisons! Hope these jackets bring back happy memories of your trips to Shetland every time they are worn.
Attn Shetland folk... We think it likely that followers of our page are puffin-fanciers, rather than Tinder users (are puffins on there, actually?)... but in case - here's a journalist looking for users of the Tinder app who are based in Shetland.
A species indigenous to Shetland, Burra Bears have been sighted at the Nielanell studio in Hoswick. These ones have very unusual markings. Wildlife photographers welcome...
Vitamins! New colours, fresh knits. The studio is open all weekend. Hoswick Visitor Centre is open too, with light lunches, tea and cake.
Practical ✓ Colourful ✓ ... could this outfit be improved upon? Style inspiration from a regular visitor to the Nielanell studio 'garden'. Via Peter Wood, who says he's thinking of taking up spinning as well as the accordion! Wouldn't recommend 'playing' this particular wheel, Peter - but you know where to come!!
NEW STOCKIST Delighted that you can now buy a selection of Nielanell pieces at Iona Craft Shop. Another Scottish island that should be on your 'must visit' list... Nielanell Marlet jacket and boxy jumpers shown with lovely scarves by Gabrielle Vary Knitwear. More is more when it comes to colour and pattern.
