Ruislip Lido Railway
Description
The UK's longest 12-inch narrow gauge railway The Ruislip Lido Railway is a 12-inch narrow gauge railway operated entirely by volunteers. The line runs through the woodlands skirting the lake from Woody Bay Station beside the beach, all the way round to Ruislip Lido (Water's Edge) Station which is close to the car park. Here you can watch the loco being turned on the turntable ready for the return journey. The two and a half mile round trip takes about 35 minutes.
All our trains are wheelchair, pushchair and buggy friendly. The service is normally operated by one of our large diesel locomotives. On summer Sundays and Bank Holidays, our steam locomotive 'Mad Bess', which is a half scale version of the Ffestiniog Railway locomotive 'Blanche', may pull the train.
Our railway shop stocks a wide range of merchandise, whilst our Tea Room offers a selection of teas, coffees and light refreshments.

Moving around 20 of the new rails up to Eleanor's...by no means a simple task! At 40ft long, and 14kg/m, the rails are the heaviest and longest that we've ever used.

The slightly unusual sight of 'Bayhurst' leading 'John Rennie' double heading a 10 coach train at Willow Lawn yesterday. Thanks to member Phil Court for the photo.
We're running our Yellow Timetable service all four days of this Easter weekend. The first train leaves Woody Bay at 12:00, and the last at 17:00!

Ever wondered what it takes to run our railway? Are you interested to know how we maintain our fleet of locomotives? Are you looking for a new hobby to enjoy in your spare time? Our popular May Open Day is back again this year, taking place on Sunday 8th May, from 11:00-17:00. We're opening our doors to the public for a behind the scenes look at what we do to keep the railway running. Entry is free although normal fares apply for the train service. Among the highlights: - We'll have our Workshop & Yard area open to the public with our volunteers on hand to explain what we do and answer any of your questions. - All available locomotives on display in the yard for children (and adults!) to look at and sit in. - Our track maintenance vehicles will be on display with descriptions of what they are and what we use them for. - Information on how you can become a volunteer on Britain's longest 12 inch gauge railway.
Two short videos taken earlier today on what was a beautiful afternoon. 'John Rennie' gently shunts 'Mad Bess' back into the workshop.
Two short videos taken earlier today on what was a beautiful afternoon. Bringing 'Robert' out of the shed for a quick spin, having not left the workshop for a fair few weeks over the winter!

A few more photos added to the Wellington-Eleanor's album. We've spent a bit of time bagging more crushed concrete, meaning we've now got a good stockpile waiting to be transferred to site.
