Description
Get up to Speed is your chance to see some of the UK's most exciting engineering inventions, and interact with the people who design, build and operate them!
As a headline event of the 2013 Global Manufacturing Festival and building on the success of the first 2 Get Up To Speed events in 2011 and 2012, which attracted over 2,000 young people, families and teachers Get Up To Speed Is back!
Get up to Speed has now been attended by over 4,500 people in the past 4 years with around 80% of whom were young people, families and teachers.
This free event is a chance to see some of the fastest vehicles, innovations and people on earth all in one place. Learn about how their success has been achieved and the fundamental role design, engineering and manufacturing have played in that success.
You'll be surprised just how many of these couldn't have happened without innovation, design, engineering and manufacturing talent and resources based in the Sheffield City Region.

“It has been a pleasure once again for the Institution of Mechanical Engineers to be associated with the GUTS event. One of our main priorities is to help promote the wide range of careers that exist in Engineering, and the various routes into them, to our next generation of talent and GUTS continues to show, year on year, that the enthusiasm for engineering & manufacturing here in Sheffield is as strong as ever. It plays a crucial role too in giving local youngsters the information they need to make an informed career choice. The Institution’s stand was inundated throughout the day with inquisitive youngsters, so who knows, GUTS may yet help to produce a few more Hunstmans, Bessemers and Brearleys!!” Steve Wainwright, IMechE Yorkshire Region.
