GE GROBY Sub Sea operations Section: Case Study. We recently carried out a full polish strip and seal of GE’s Sub-Sea Operations Unit based in Groby. The poor condition of the floor posed a risk to staff using this area as it was saturated in a greasy film caused by the high quantities of silicone grease used throughout the production area. The cleaning regime was inadequate in breaking down the build-up of grease and reactivating the slip-resistant properties of the floor, creating a potential hazard. There was also discoloration (yellow tinge) to the vinyl surface, below the polish layer and a white powder residue was visible. To rectify the situation we carried out the following; A full polish strip using British Nova Star Bright Floor Stripper, using scrubbing machines and wet-vacs to clear broken down polish and water/stripper dilution. A neutralising clean of the floors using Vinegar and water – removing suspected ammonia (yellow tinge). Clean water mop to ready floors for a polish application. Primary application of British Nova Guard, a heavy duty floor polish. Secondary application of British Nova Guard applied at a 45 degree direction to primary polish. High-speed burnish to heat and activate polymers in the polish to increase slip resistant properties of floor. Recommendations Following completion of the job we recommended the implementation of a monthly cleaning schedule to include the following; The use of soda crystals and water alongside a scrubbing machine to break down the silicone grease or a similar degreasing product such as Virosol. Wet-vac floor to remove broken down grease and other contaminated water. Application of Nova Care Cleaning Scrub. Dry high-speed burnish to floors to reactivate polymers in polish to ensure slip resistant finish.
