Drumgath hosted St. Paul's Holywood on Friday 30th June at Barnmeen. Drumgath fielded without the experience of Mark Connolly, Miceal Quinn and Ryan McCusker through injury. Oisin Hart was rested and Chrissy Hynes was starred due to his involvement with the County hurling Minors. Colm Maginn is nursing a hamstring strain and was drafted into full forward. Oisin Toner and Paddy Lively started in midfield. St. Paul's travelled with a threadbare squad. In the first minute, Sean Tucker could have had a goal for St. Paul's. He latched onto a long ball and had the goal at his mercy, but Calvin Parsons, alert from the throw in, kept the shot out with a full stretched right leg. Drumgath's early forays into St. Paul's territory yielded nothing. On 8 minutes Drumgath were punished for wayward shots and ill conceived shot selection when Sean Tucker scored the first point of the game for St. Paul's. Ryan Hillen hit a brace for Drumgath on 10 and 11 minutes. Daire Rooney levelled for St. Paul's with a point on 14 minutes. Colum McComish edged Drumgath ahead with a pointed free on 16 minutes. Sean Tucker drew St. Paul's level once more with a point on 20 minutes. Ryan Hillen responded immediately with a cleverly fisted point for Drumgath. Colum McComish pointed from a free to give Drumgath a 2 point advantage on 23 minutes. St. Paul's kept in touch with a Michael Collins point on 26 minutes. However, Drumgath were finding rhythm and building momentum. Oisin Toner had a good goal disallowed for a "square ball". Aaron Sloan added a point for Drumgath on 27 minutes. This score settled Drumgath and on 28 minutes Gary O'Reilly surged up the field to score another point for Drumgath. Colm Maginn put Drumgath firmly in control with a well taken goal for Drumgath on the half hour. Half time Drumgath 1.07. 0.05. St. Paul's Drumgath established control early in the second half. Cathal Tumilty and Paul Hillen turned over a fierce amount of St. Paul's attacks. Aaron Sloan and Shea Byrne flourished in the space and Colum McComish coolly helped himself to 1.05 in the second half. Paddy Lively added 2 points from midfield. Shea Byrne was rewarded for his efforts at half forward with a point on 51 minutes. St. Paul's scored points from Matthew Grimley and Daire Rooney. In an unfamiliar Drumgath line out and formation, Kieran Devlin done well at full forward. Young Daniel Baillie made his senior debut at half back as substitute for Gary O'Reilly and stuck to his task well. Referee Leo Smyth had a good game. He properly disallowed a Ryan Hillen goal for over carrying. Drumgath GFC sends thanks and congratulations to the Down team for an outstanding performance against Monaghan in the Ulster semi final.
