BAD NEWS - AVIAN FLU STILL AROUND!!! Defra have announced that "on 4 May 2017 we confirmed a case of avian influenza H5N8 in a small backyard flock of chickens near Thornton, Wyre, Lancashire." Restrictions for a 3km Prevention Zone and a 10km Survelliance Zone are now in place. Please refer to the Defra website and enter your postcode to check if you fall within any of the zones. (https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/612519/ai-pz-lancashire-170504.pdf) Fortunately, Pear Tree Poultry does not fall within these restriction zones, so we are open as normal, but our thoughts go out to those businesses, breeders and garden-flocks owners who are once again effected.
