I am late to this discussion around the recent BBC education article, discussing teaching mental health in schools, though I have been campaigning for mental WEALTH in education for well over a year now. I have been a principal/ headteacher in 3 schools. I shared meditation and resilience in all of my schools. It was the connection together as humans in that moment that made it special. Particularly after a busy time, staff came too. Parents asked if they could. I now coach heads leaders and teachers in the Three Principles . Have done since 2013. Life in schools has become incredibly pressured. Appallingly so. Teachers and leaders are becoming far less creative in their thinking . This in turn impacts children.Teachers are incessantly channelled by statutory compliance. They have little wriggle room to paint or explore. Yes, children are amazing Michael Gilmore and as Judy Sedgeman pointed out on my recent gathering for 'Unlimited Hope in Education' they do not see the faults or the 'system' . However their adults do. I have also observed a huge social change with families overworking, 24/7 emails and tweets around work. Families also near the poverty line. Children as young as ten feel lost and hopeless. Deeply hopeless. They are often exposed to adult media far too soon. Yes the majority may be playing happily and yes I despair at this becoming a curriculum subject in lieu of an understanding.An outside in fix when nothing is essentially broken. Help me to share the Three Principles in education and take this to more and more schools. Dr Redfern in the article is doing her best, however, all thought is energy and what we can point to is that it is neither good nor bad, it does not have a value it is just energy. When we give it a value (sad, happy etc) we then build upon it and look outside for the blame. It can be fascinating for children and youth to begin to understand the creation of our own reality. Particularly when there are public TV showings of adults who openly profess misguided thoughts of power and racism. Please share my postings as they restart after my moving house. I have had the honour of taking Dr Judith Sedgeman into a school this week. We were gathering children's views 'about our world' to share with the British Government. I have been in three more schools where children are showing detailed awareness and some concerns of the adult world they live in.
