A full load of heather collected by Graeme from Trinafour, Perthshire. The snow covered hill you can see in the distance is Schiehallion. One of Scotland's best known hills, Schiehallion lies between Loch Tay, Loch Rannoch and Loch Tummel. This is one of the easiest Munros to climb standing at 1083 meters high. However this is best bagged on fine summers day!

Hi there, A wee story about one of our Heathergems machines... This is the Tilghman Wheelabrator. It is a rotary shot blaster. This is the machine we used to clean the heather and remove the bark. It tumbles the heather while firing cold iron shot chipping away the bark. It is one of only a few left in the country and the only one used to clean heather as they were designed to shotblast metal castings. This machine was bought new by my Grandfather Charles Buyers in 1975 and cost £3625 back then. A sum equivalent to £40,000 to £50,000 today. The machine constantly needs parts replaced because it is self destructive. This is one of our most important machines in the process of making Heathergems. Stuart

Red Heather Stems

Here you can see heather stems which have been dyed red, compressed together, placed in an oven to speed the drying process, and removed from the metal moulds to form a red block of heather stems. Ready to be made into a beautiful red Heathergem.
