To all of our friends, family and regular visitors to our ice cream parlour, it is with great sorrow and utter regret that we have to announce that sadly we will be closing the door for the final time at 5.00 pm tomorrow night Tuesday 31st October. Our staff have been informed and like ourselves, they are devastated at the news. The sad fact of the matter though is and always has been the shortage of customers through our doors. It was a risk opening our shop on the Upper Chare owing to the difficulties in climbing the spiral staircase or using the lift by the toilet block but when we first enquired about opening our shop upstairs we were told by the previous town centre management that plans were in place for an escalator to be constructed up to the Upper Chare. We thought this would solve the problems with the stairs and help people with walking difficulties. Sadly our hopes were dashed when we were told in February that the escalator would not be put in place after all because the cost was too excessive for the few businesses upstairs. So, despite the obstacles we carried on, introducing new items to our menu trying to attract more customers. Unfortunately we have had many more bad days than good as most of our regular visitors will agree. We have lost count of the number of days in the past year that that damned lift has been out of order. Excuse after excuse from the management, parts ordered from abroad, engineer called away, all made it difficult for us to keep our heads above water, especially during these financially hard times. Repeated requests for help from the town centre owners and managers fell on deaf ears from advertising and signs, crazy parking restrictions leading to fewer people using our town centre because they have been fined for staying longer than the allowed 3 hours, crazy, absolutely crazy. This has led to more and more empty shops in the centre. The place looks like a ghost town now with no signs of any improvement or new businesses moving in, apart from the Christmas shop, but that will be gone come January. To all the business owners in the centre, I hope you have a busy lead up to Christmas and beyond. To all of our regular visitors, can we take this opportunity to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your valued custom over the last 13 months, without you, we wouldn't have lasted as long as we did. To our suppliers, thanks for your valued help and advice. Finally to all the girls, past and present, who have worked in the shop. Me and Jo would like to thank you all for your hard work and dedication, your friendly attitude was mentioned time and time again, all of our customers loved you all, thank you. As a sign of our thanks and gratitude for your valued custom, Jo and myself would like to offer you all a buy one get one free on everything on the menu tomorrow ( if there's anything left lol ) to say goodbye and thanks.
