Sadly I've heard that one of our members, Vera Hart has passed away last Wednesday, a lovely lady who had been a member for the last ten years. She had moved here with her husband, Bob, to be near her daughter Linda. Originally from Chorley Lancashire, she had been involved with their WI Federation for many years and also helped on their Country Markets. She was always interested in our cake competitions, having a go most years for the Dorothy Hartley trophy and enjoyed discussing the set recipes, also giving us tips on presentation for jars of preserves. Her funeral is on Wednesday August 24th, 10.00am at Amber Valley Crematorium, Swanwick. Followed by light refreshments at Alfreton Hall. Family flowers only but donations if you wish to The Air Ambulance and Macmillan Cancer Support. Vera loved colour so feel free to wear what you are comfortable in.

A successful Bakewell Show, where we came first in the Home economics cooperative. Yippee! Thanks to Gill who made the onion soup, Sue, walnut and honey tartlets, Julie, pork pie and,in the absence of Di, cherry and almond cake, Simone the beautiful flower arrangement and Marianne for covering the board, signage and accessories. A good team effort, thank you all. Second in the cooperative were Charlesworth with Winters tale and third went to Duffield Cumberhills with Macbeth. Pentrich, Simone, also came second in the tankard flower arrangement, Julie, second in the jelly and second in the curd tarts. Some beautiful craft work being done in WIs across the county by some very talented ladies.

Good morning ladies. Can anyone tell me who made and brought the 'fruity, nutty flapjack' to the meeting last night? It was absolutely delicious and I would love the recipe. Thank you Gill L x

Thank you Cromford WI for setting an excellent Quiz at Alderwasley last night and the delicious homemade cakes. The team from Pentrich thoroughly enjoyed the challenging questions set by Quiz Mistress Janet Chambers and managed to achieve joint first with Baslow WI just beating them on the tiebreak question. Despite thinking Adderley and Humbolt were raspberries and not penguins!

Despite the horrendous weather during our Summer party we celebrated the Queens Birthday with guests from the Eastwood group and Little Eaton WI. Royal purple and gold was the theme. Members had been asked to make crowns and teapot floral table decorations for the competitions, the results were impressive, we obviously have some very talented ladies in Pentrich. They'd also been very generous and donated many prizes for our ACWW raffle.
