CAST Angling Project
Description
CAST is an educational angling project established since 2003 working with schools across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire with disengaged young people. CAST deliver a range of Qualifications available which can be tailored for learners individual needs. The CAST Project uses angling as a means to inspire and motivate young people to develop an interest in learning. We encourage young people to recognise the merits of learning skills in order to achieve goals and understand the links between education and success. The project has an intrinsic commitment to developing the life skills, citizenship and social responsibility of its members.
CAST provides a person-centred, supportive environment that encourages participants to take control of their lives and accept responsibility for their actions and decisions.
Training and support takes place in small groups and on an individual basis in a way that promotes empowerment and personal responsibility.
Accreditation and Progression
For many young people having their achievements recognised is an important and enriching process. CAST places this at the heart of its work and seeks to acknowledge achievements through nationally recognised qualifications. The CAST Personal Development course is a combination of Step-Up OCN’s delivered at both Entry & Level one, providing students an opportunity for progression and to accumulate credits for future education pathways.
