Six warm and cosy log cabins, sleeping up to six in each, surrounded by birch woods, and meadows  grazed by highland cattle, at Drynie Park, a peaceful and picturesque area 10 miles from Inverness, in the Highlands of Scotland. Big Sky Lodges is a family run business which offers six warm and cosy log cabins in Scotland, each one unique with plenty of homely touches to make it a special place. Wood burning stoves, original art work, stylish furniture and walks in the woods next to the lodges. Whether you’re searching for a romantic break, a family week away, or just a chance to escape from it all, then hopefully you’ll find a lodge to suit you.

Set on 17 acres of traditional Scottish croft land Big Sky has fantastic views over birch woodland and open fields grazed by horses and highland cattle. Ideally situated just ten miles from Inverness with its international airport, and near to Loch Ness, you won’t find a better or more relaxing base to explore the whole of the highlands. On the very doorstep is some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland.

Inside, our log cabins are relaxed and comfortable, with wood burning stoves, solid pine floors, wood lined rooms, full central heating and comfy and stylish furniture. The log cabins all have three bedrooms with two or three bathrooms and open plan living with fully fitted kitchens. Whether you are reading on the deep leather sofas next to the wood burning stove or enjoying the evening sun on the veranda there is always a perfect spot to relax in.

First and foremost, Big Sky Lodges, offers natural, environmentally friendly (wood is the only carbon neutral construction material) Scottish holidays for those seeking an exceptional natural area in which to stay as a family. The log cabins are built with the highest quality Finnish pine from Lapland, with the most modern comforts of home. Each log cabin is special, having been beautifully, tastefully and newly decorated throughout, with excellent fixtures and fittings providing a luxurious home from home.

Some of the lodges have private balconies; why not eat your breakfast on a balcony whilst watching the local Red Kites catch theirs on the croft? Outside you can sit or dine on the veranda (there are no midges here) and enjoy watching the sunset late into the evening.

We provide free wireless internet access in all our lodges.

We are pet friendly and allow one well-behaved dog in each lodge by prior arrangement for a small charge.

It’s been a little while since my last post as our joiners have been away on their holidays so we’ve had a quieter site for a couple of weeks. We have still been busy though, and starting to think about and order exciting things like kitchens and bathrooms and furnishings. Most of these won’t be required for a long while yet but when building a house it’s good to plan ahead and as measurements can change along the way you want everything to fit when it finally does arrive. This week's blog is brought to you by Mr Big Sky himself, Jonny! Ailsa has been busy making sure all the guests at Big Sky Lodges are well looked after and juggling all the details of the house build so this post is brought to you by Jonny (or Ailsa's husband as the builders refer to me.) The house build has been flying along since the last post. We now have floors, although our underfloor heating is still to go in so it is just a plywood base downstairs. It's been another busy week at Big Sky HQ. At the beginning of last week our rafters and dormer window were fully formed and ready to be covered with sarking. Once our joiners started, the sarking went on quickly and within a few days the roof was covered. The sarking is made up of pre-treated rough sawn boards which strengthen the roof and provide a base for the slates.
