Delighted to see that after 11 weeks in hospital Sharon McKee from our detecting team is finally back home after a very bad car crash late last year. Hope you continue to improve Sharon, and look forward to seeing you back in the field again.

So, today being Valentines Day we spent the day discussing pointed nipples and rounded bottoms - yes, the morphology of Roman sling bullets is a topical subject. We've now extended the typology of bullet shapes, and have found groups that appear to come from the same moulds, another first as far as we can tell.

Back to the hill today. The plantation to the north of the North Camp is being felled, so we took the opportunity to do some detecting there, as it will be the last chance for several years. Delighted to see a spike in views of the page since Digging for Britain went out. If any of you have not yet voted in the Current Archaeology Awards https://www.archaeology.co.uk/vote then please do. In the mean time our Iron Age metalwork is back from the conservation labs, amazing to see 2,000 year old enamelling still in place. Tomorrow is the last piece of this years work, as we clean the last 190 sling bullets from the large cache in Trench 3 - thanks to Dumfries Museum for providing us with space to achieve this.

Historic Environment Scotland have just launched a survey to ask the people of Scotland about their heritage and to give everyone a chance to say what historic places and buildings are important to them. I would encourage anyone with an interest in Scotland's heritage to respond to the brief survey which can be found at: https://www.historicenvironment.scot/advice-and-support/listing-scheduling-and-designations/what-s-your-heritage/
