DU Performance Squad training weekend at mine. Ten great, fun athletes and all round good eggs. Biggest challenge? Not the long ride, run off the bike, nor the long run or the swim. It has to be the 'make the best vegan haggis canapes within an hour' competition. Well done all.
'Did you use to be Kriss Akabusi?' This question was asked of this particular sporting hero after he retired! Really! Fortunately he had prepared and retired on a high. As amateurs, do you think we think about the other aspects of life outside sport enough? How bound up in sport are our personalities? We may be lucky enough to carry on until we die, but if not - what do we have? Fail to plan, plan to fail! What other interests or goals do you have outside sport?
It's your sport, make sure you understand the rules. Some changes this year. https://www.triathlonengland.org/britain/documents/events/competition-rules/british-triathlon-competition-rules-2018.pdf and https://www.triathlonengland.org/britain/documents/events/competition-rules/2018-competition-rules-changes-overview.pdf;
A week when I have had to do as I say! It's hard when you are ill to stay off training. Even harder when you are recovering. But, despite all the angst and the impatience, we all know deep down that enabling the body to recover properly will enable us to get back to consistent training more quickly than starting too early and/or too hard. After illness if you really feel well again and want to train, wait another day. Then recovery level and see how it affects you. In my case this week, after gradually coming back with recovery level turbos, I enjoyed a HaTriC club swim session tonight, keeping it steady. Proper recovery is training.
I love winter. I like dark, long nights for good sleep. I like the light quality and the shape of bare trees. I also like the freedom that deep winter brings to my training: the ability to concentrate on me without the immediate pressure of looming A races. I like my turbo. I like running in cold and rain. I like cross training. What do you like about winter training?
Wishing you all a happy, healthy and successful 2018. 2017's been a blast, and I am looking forward to sharing new developments at Born to Tri soon. Have fun everyone!
Well, we knew some of these changes would happen! I will summarise soon. ITU Rule Changes 2018: Meanwhile:http://www.220triathlon.com/news/itu-announce-new-rules-for-2018-season/12210.html
Persistence pays. Breakthrough session in fly for me after about 10 years of struggle. Thank you for the session, Thirsk and Sowerby pool swim instructors. #Nevertoolatetolearn. #olddogslearnnewtricks
Looking forward to coaching the HaTriC club swim tonight at Thirsk
Good luck to Andrew Sedgewick doing the National Triathlon Champs in Malta! GO GO GO!
