As it celebrates its 24th Year, there is fun for all the family to enjoy at the Victorian Matlock Christmas Weekend & Markets 2017..

At the centre of the Town is the impressive Hall Leys Park, which plays host to one of East Midland’s biggest free outdoor Christmas events – the Victorian Matlock Christmas Weekend & Markets.

The market around 200 stalls in two marquees and across the park, whilst entertainment is provided throughout the three days, through a mix of old favourites and new surprises for 2016. The weekend’s highlights include Santa’s Grotto (Saturday and Sunday), Santa’s Christmas Parade and Celebrity Light Switch-On during Saturday’s programme, and the event closes with a spectacular firework display on the Sunday evening. The Town’s cafes and shops will be open throughout the weekend.

Friday – stalls open from 10am until 6pm

Saturday – stalls open from 9.30am until 7pm

4.15pm – Santa’s Christmas Parade

4.45pm – Christmas Lights Switch-on

Sunday – stalls open from 9.30am until 6pm

5.15pm – Grand Finale Firework Display

The Event is held this year on Friday December 1st, Saturday December 2nd & Sunday December 3rd. How do I book a stall book for this year’s Victorian Matlock Christmas Market? Space is selling fast so it is important that we hear from you without delay. On Friday the Market is open between 10.a.m and 6 p.m. Saturday between 9.30 a.m. and 7.p.m. and Sunday between 9.30 p.m and 6.p.m. Is there entertainment each day and is that also free? Yes there is free entertainment each day on Friday- James McKay and his owls are on display. There is a Dutch Street Organ and Christmas Characters will be touring the site. On Saturday Circuswhiz will be in attendance with the interactive workshops providing fun for all the children. The Ambassadors of Borrowash Carnival Show Band will be giving a marching display and the Gen Steel Band will be performing on the Bandstand. James McKay and his owls and the Dutch street Organ will also be in attendance. On Sunday Circuswhiz will again be in attendance and the Seaforth Highlanders will be performing in the Arena and the Gen Steel Band will be providing Bandstand entertainment plus James McKay & his Owls and the Dutch Street Organ will be in attendance. Will my children be able to visit Santa in his Grotto again this year? Yes Father Christmas will be in his Grotto on both Saturday and Sunday. Will the children’s rides be there as usual? Yes Proctors Family Christmas Fun Fair will be attending again this year with rides for all the family Will there be a Santa’s Christmas Parade this year? Yes the Santa’s Christmas Parade takes Place on Saturday afternoon at 4.15p.m and will start on Bakewell Rd proceeding to Crown Square, Causeway Lane, and then proceeding over the River Bridge and along part of Dale Rd. Santa will travel in a coach and horses. The procession will be headed by the Borrowash Carnival Showband and the parade will be joined by our entertainment team. Will there be a Christmas lights Switch on this year? Yes the Christmas lights switch on will be held on the Bandstand in the centre of the park at 4.45p.m. Who will be switching the lights on this year? This year will our biggest Matlock Lights switch on ceremony with Gareth Evans popular Breakfast presenter from the East Midlands Smooth Radio and Jessica Revell from CBBC’S Tracy Breaker Returns & the Dumping Ground. Jessica is appearing in “Sleeping Beauty “ at the Buxton Opera House from Sat 9th to 13th December. Both Gareth & Jessica will be supported by our Christmas Characters and visitors from another planet. This all adds up to a fun Christmas Switch-on. Will there be a Firework Display at the Weekend? Yes we have a breath-taking Firework Display as the Weekends Finale and this will be held at 5.15 p.m. on Sunday. Where do I park my car? All the Town Centre Car Parks are available, also the Artist Corner Car Park which is situated on the A.6 between Matlock & Matlock Bath (just a short walk to Hall Leys Park and there are large Addional Car Parks situated in Matlock Bath these are just over a mile away. Dependent on weather conditions there is addional car parking on Matlock Cricket Club which is just across the road from the park. Sat nav directions to Hall Leys park is DE4 3AT. Is there public Transport to Matlock? Yes there is an hourly service from Newark Castle to Matlock calling at Nottingham, Derby and all intermediate stations on Friday & Saturday. On Sunday the service operates form Nottingham & Derby on a two hourly basis. The train service is operated by East Midlands Trains who will give full information on the service. I am bring a Coach to the Victorian Matlock Christmas weekend where should I park my Coach? There are some limited coach parking places in the Town Centre and there is a large free Coach Park situated at County Hall in Matlock. If you use this car park you will need to drop off and pick up your passengers in the Town Centre and then take your coach to County Hall. If you are bringing a coach to visit the event it would be helpful if you would let us know the day you are visiting and the approximate time of arrival. How many stalls are there at the market? There are in excess of 170 stalls jointly situated in three heated marquees and also outside stalls selling a rich variety of goods and produce. The market is one of the largest and best to be staged in the East Midlands. As this market is situated in the centre of the Town you also have access to an excellent range of small specialist shops Are there any restaurants close at hand? Yes Matlock Town centre has an interesting variety of eating places which are all close to the Hall Leys Park. If I was wanting to visit the Market & Chatsworth House on the same day would this be possible? Yes Matlock Town Centre is about 8 miles from Chatsworth and is about 19 minutes away, so many people visit both places on the same day.
