The Smith family presented a cheque for £400 to The Children’s Heartbeat Trust. This included money raised by Niamh Smith, Carol Singing in Alexanders with some of her friends from Armagh Hockey Club before Christmas and money from Roberta McCrum, Niamh’s granny in lieu of receiving gifts for Roberta’s recent 70th birthday. The Smith family would like to thank Alexanders for hosting them, everyone who helped sing and for all the kind donations from the public. Niamh had Transposition of the Great Arteries when she was born and had open heart surgery at 10 days old. Niamh’s cousin Owen had a hole in his heart (ASD) which was surgically repaired when he was 6 months old. The family have been very grateful for the support of The Children’s Heartbeat trust. The Children’s Heartbeat Trust support children and their families with congenital heart disease. They work closely with the Clark Clinic at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, helping fund top quality medical equipment and initiatives to ensure that local children with heart disease receive the best care and treatment possible.
The Physiotherapy Clinic will be closed now for new patients until Monday 7th January (There are some pre-arranged appointments for current patients, on Thurs 27th Dec and Thurs 3rd Jan), thanks, Gillian

October has been a busy month for training. I was in Manchester at the start of the month for an update on the knee. The course was run by a Consultant Physiotherapist from the South of England. She updated us on all the latest research regarding assessment and treatment of a variety of knee problems. She also dispelled a few myths, which was very interesting. For example, many people believe running will worsen Osteoarthritis. However, some research has now shown that if people pace their running and run within their pain limits, their arthritis doesn't worsen. At the end of the month, I completed a 2 day acupuncture update and learned auricular (ear) acupuncture as part of this training. Looking forward to using all my new knowledge!
