Lots of tables for two today at the Frangipane pop-up tearoom. There’s no greater combination (in my view) than embroidered table linen and vintage china cups and plates. Add wonderful Shibui Tea and delicious sandwiches, cakes and scones and you have a perfect afternoon tea! We will next be open on 25th and 26th September.

Cream Meringues are on the menu at the pop-up tearoom this month. There can be nothing more delicious than melt-in-the-mouth meringues (and ours are of course!), sandwiched together with whipped cream. There are still some tables free for Thursday 29th August so if you feel like a delicious afternoon tea-style lunch in a private home, contact us (Message or phone/text 07446 859555).

Flowers from the garden for the tables at today’s Frangipane pop-up tearoom opening. The flowers are all looking a bit heavy after last night’s downpours but the worst of the water has been shaken off and they’re ready for the tables now. The next opening of the pop-up tearoom will be on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th August so contact us now to book your table.

It’s Thursday so that means Baking Day for @barneyscoffeeshop in the Frangipane kitchen. Here are some vegan Custard Creams ready to be filled with ‘butter’ icing, the finished Custard Cream and a Vanilla Vegan and Gluten-Free Cake topped with rose petals. Also going to @barneyscoffeeshop are some gluten-free Flapjacks, gluten-free Rich Chocolate Brownies and gluten-free Carrot Cake. Apparently, these treats are enjoyed by customers who are neither vegan nor gluten-free too, so why not visit East Linton this weekend to try them out!

Courgette Loaf - absolutely not as worthy as it sounds! It’s very like carrot cake but with courgettes. This version (from BBC Good Food) has cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla in it, along with chopped walnuts and sultanas. You could really add any dried fruit or nuts you like to the basic mix. A great way to use up all the courgettes that are now flourishing in the garden (why does everything grow at once?). If some more courgettes make an appearance, this might be on next week’s pop-up tearoom menu.

At this time of the year, it’s a race to use all the things growing in the garden before the pigeons, slugs or snails get at them. I am picking raspberries just now and making raspberry jam - honestly, it’s very easy if you use jam sugar or Certo. I love the seasons so find it wonderful to open a pot of jam in mid-December and remember the sunny day in July when I picked the fruit (or the day in July I was in the garden with a brolly trying to pick the fruit before the rain ruined it totally).

Lavender Biscuits, made with home-grown lavender (of course!). These were on last month’s menu in the Frangipane pop-up tearoom. You use the young leaves and flower buds in the biscuits, which then have the edges rolled in Demerara sugar. The idea of eating flowers fills my husband with horror (what does he think broccoli is? 🤔) so he can’t bring himself to try these! The flavour is actually very subtle and delicious!

A delicious treat for the weekend. Take a Victoria Sponge (either make half a sponge cake or run out and buy one), whip up some double cream (300ml) adding one tablespoon of icing sugar and vanilla seeds as you go. Spread cream on top of sponge and add LOADS of strawberries and a sprig of mint. I made this last night and it was scoffed in one sitting thanks to Mr and sons. It’s June, you just have to eat strawberries! 🍓

Massed ranks of Empire Biscuits. A simple but delicious bake, especially when you team it up with a cup of tea. It must be time to put the kettle on again. . . ☕🍰

There’s a bit of a glut of rhubarb in the Frangipane garden so some Strawberry and Rhubarb Jam making was required. If it sets, it might well make an appearance at Frangipane’s pop-up tearoom next week.
