To all IoN & ICN students, The Queen Square Student Committee would like to give you an update on the Annual Queen Square Symposium 2019. For those of you who haven’t yet submitted their abstracts, good news: ***************************************************************** The abstract submission deadline is extended to Sunday 12th of May! ****************************************************************** We encourage each and everyone of you to use this extra week to send us your abstracts at qscommittee@gmail.com with the header “2019 QSS - Abstract submission", using the guidelines provided (see attached for more details). We also take this opportunity to reveal our guest speakers for this amazing event who we are very grateful and excited to welcome. **************************************************************** Prof Gill Bates (IoN) is the head of the Bates Lab, which has been at the front line of Huntington’s disease research for many years. Her work focuses on the molecular basis of HD, as well as the development of therapeutic targets. Prof Michael Hausser (Wolfson Centre for Biomedical Research) leads the neural computation lab, which uses methods from cellular and systems neuroscience to understand neural circuits. His cutting-edge work brought crucial insights to the understanding of cerebellum and neocortex computations. Prof Mary Rielly (IoN) primarily focuses on inherited neuropathies and how research can be translated into clinical treatments. She has been elected the first female president of the Association of British Neurologists. ***************************************************************** We would also like to remind you that we will host a discussion session on the subject of “The editorial career in scientific publishing”, for which we will have the pleasure to receive Chief Editor Stavroula Kousta and Associate Aditor Aisha Bradshaw, from the scientific journal Nature Human Behaviour We look forward to receiving your abstracts this week and to seeing you all at the end of the month for what will be an exciting day of science sharing!

Queen Square Students' Committee

To all IoN & ICN students, Do you have an hour on your hands this afternoon, or this week? Why not write a quick abstract for the Queen Square Student Committee's 20th Annual Queen Square Symposium and send it to qscommittee@gmail.com before next Sunday! The Symposium will take place on Friday 31st May in the IOE Jeffery Hall, and will showcase the important contributions of both established and early career IoN researchers. Bringing together MSc and PhD students from all of the Institute of Neurology, it provides an invaluable opportunity to discover cutting edge research in diverse domains, including clinical, cognitive and computational neuroscience. Most importantly, it is a one time chance to present and discuss your own research, gather feedback and bind with other researchers. This year, the Symposium will include talks from some of Neurosciences' most influential researchers, as well as posters sessions and a workshop led by some exciting guests! Look out for some reveals this week! The Symposium is organised by students for students. In line with that, we want you to have the easiest preparation experience, therefore, we will provide you poster templates, that will make the process of creating a poster significantly easier for you, and we will print your posters for free. We also want to emphasise that the symposium will be very student-friendly, so don’t stress out about having the most professional poster! Most of us will be making their first project presentation by then, it’s totally fine if it’s not perfect. This is a useful occasion for everyone to gain experience, and it can be particularly helpful for students to present their research projects. We therefore encourage everyone, regardless of the current state of their project, to send their abstracts. Sooooo, send us an abstract before Sunday 5th of May to qscommittee@gmail.com. Please use the subject header “2019 QSS - Abstract submission” and make it no longer than 300 words! We have some big prizes to hand out to the best posters & presentations! Check out our website for complementary information and guidelines: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/ion/study/queen-square-symposium Also check out our FAQs: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/ion/study/queen-square-symposium/faqs We’re waiting to hear from you!
