Powerflow Lisburn
Description
Powerflow Lisburn was started in 2005 with the company's owner, John Curistan providing the show piece - a 2 door classic shape Impreza nicknamed Betsy. It quickly claimed the mantle of the second fastest Impreza in Ireland, still with the EJ20. With the need to up the stakes becoming apparent, a new fully built 2.5 engine was assembled by Adrian 'Charlie' Bell (Powerflow Lisburn Mechanic). After testing, the new 500bhp Impreza made its competitive outing at Jap Finale in England, where it claimed both Fastest Road-Legal Impreza and Fastest Road Legal Car in the RWYB class with a quarter mile time of 11.007seconds. A few weeks later it became the first Japanese car in Ireland to break into the 10 second bracket, with a 10.99 second pass on a damp day at Crail in Scotland.
To develop the business further, Powerflow Lisburn built a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI RS, which is also powered by one of our high power hand built engines. On 24th June 2006, the 901bhp Powerflow Lisburn Evo 6 became the first car in Ireland to break the 10 second barrier and post a 9 .917 second pass at 151.5mph. The Evo VI recorded three 9 seconds passes, in the process claiming the mantel of Fastest Evo VI in the World.
With Betsy in the process of its re-incarnation to something more potent, our Impreza race car has been setting the Irish drag scene alight, recently posting a quarter-mile time of 10.3 seconds, claiming the mantle of the Fastest Impreza in Ireland from Betsy.
Next on the list of Powerflow Lisburn accolades is the MLR 30-130 win at RAF Marham, England. The Powerflow Lisburn-built Evo IX GT stormed to victory with a time of 7.1seconds, easily beating the nearest competition by 3/10’s of a second. The build was done on a tight schedule of only 6 weeks, from a rolling shell to the 800bhp monster that it is now, which is no small feat by anyone’s standards.
2009 has seen us compete with our AMS/Powerflow Lisburn Evo VII, with the race Impreza build on-going. This car recently posted a time of 11.1 in the wet and 10.8 in the dry, thereby claiming fastest car of the day against stiff competition on at least two occasions. This car has recently had an uprated drivetrain, to try and cope with 750bhp on race fuel and should be even more competitive in the incoming race season.
2010 saw Powerflow Lisburn smash lots of drag racing records. The Evo VII was put on a strict diet and a new engine was built for it, this time pumping out 1042bhp which was enough for it to claim fastest quarter mile with a 9.27 @ 155mph at Ten of The Best, also claiming the fastest standing kilometre of the day at 189.4mph. 2010 also saw Powerflow Lisburn dominate the Irish drag racing championships with Powerflow Lisburn tuned cars consistently claiming 1st 2nd and 3rd in class for most of the year, with Ruairi Begleg eventually winning his class overall in his Powerflow Lisburn tuned DC2 Integra.
2011 saw Powerflow Lisburn take a step back from the drag racing to develop their now purpose built drag car and get ready for the 2012 season along with a few big customer builds. Powerflow Lisburn also have just become the only Dodson Motorsport approved dealers and pro dealers in Ireland, in the process becoming Ireland's leading GTR gearbox specialists.
