Hospital Progress. During January the progress on the new hospital has accelerated only marginally hampered by some very cold weather. Many of you are asking, when will it be finished. We hope to commission the building mid April - most of the block work in the clinical area is finished and we can see the operating theatres taking shape.

Visit by Young Farmers. We were delighted to host Netherseal Young Farmers tonight. They were able to see the MRI, the operating Theatre, a dental health talk and a demonstration of lameness investigation.

Christmas Tree Success! Many thanks to everyone who voted for us tree in the Lichfield Cathedral Christmas Tree competition. For the fourth year in a row we WON!!!!!! The competition was very strong this year and we will need to try even harder next year to make it five in a row!

We have two employees of the month for December. Amy in the reception team and Andrea from the clinic residents team. Amy has shown exceptional compassion to clients who have lost horses during the month and Andrea has had to manage the in-house team whilst the other two residents have been on rotation in Glasgow and Turin Universities

Today was a very important day for our Farriery team - Jonathan Nunn received his Fellowship of the Worshipful Company of Farrier’s the top UK (indeed world) award in Farriery. To make the day even more special Josh and Lexi both received their Diploma certificates and are now fully qualified Farriers. Richard Stephenson is currently chairman of the Farriers Examination Board so it was really exciting seeing our own Farriers doing so well.

Hiawatha goes home after remarkable recovery from colic surgery. Last Friday night Amy Clark had a frightening experience when her Horse Hiawatha was found with severe colic. Gil attended immediately and referred Hiawatha to the Clinic for investigation. The colic team Richard, Marco, Giulia and Nicholas swung into action and identified a colon torsion. Prompt surgery resulted in a speedy recovery despite a very serious presentation. Well done to Amy and Curborough Livery on spotting the emergency so quickly and not delaying in calling for help - early intervention was critical in the good outcome!

New Hospital update. Despite freezing weather, snow and rain work has progressed steadily on the new hospital - most of the external walls are built and the inside is beginning to take shape!

We hope everyone had a happy Christmas. We are open as normal Wednesday Thursday and Friday this week with Emergency cover as normal over the New Year weekend. It was a really nice Christmas present for us to receive three nominations for the Pet Plan 2018 awards
