** SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT ** Lichfield Musical Youth Theatre under 16s will be performing... ELF THE MUSICAL Jr From 5th - 8th December 2018 at Friary High School Theatre, Lichfield. We are delighted to share with you all that for the first time in LMYT history we will be performing the fantastic Christmas story of ELF! Based on the beloved 2003 New Line Cinema hit starring Will Ferrell, ELF is the hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole. Unaware that he is actually human, Buddy’s enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, discover his true identity, and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. Using the brilliant local venue of the Friary School this feel good musical, for all the family, is 1 hour long and there will be 2 performances a night giving lots of people the opportunity to come share some Christmas joy with us! ** SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT ** Lichfield Musical Youth Theatre over 16s will be performing... RENT From 23rd - 27th October 2018 at A3 Arena, Forest Arts Centre, Walsall. We are delighted to share with you all that after almost 10 years we are bringing the 90's breakthrough musical RENT back to the stage at the fantastic new A3 Arena at Forest Arts Centre. With a cast of 30 talented members aged 16+ we will be telling the thrilling story of a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive in New York City’s East Village in the thriving days of Bohemian excess. RENT features unforgettable music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson including the much-loved songs Seasons of Love, Take Me or Leave Me and La Vie Bohème. TICKETS WILL GO ON SALE ON FRIDAY 16TH FEBRUARY. Its time for a little bit more information on our upcoming shows... We are very excited to announce that we will be announcing not ONE but TWO shows for 2018!!! 2018 is a year of exciting change for Lichfield Musical Youth Theatre and we wanted to be able to open our doors to more members and more opportunity so we are splitting LMYT in half! The first show will be in October 2018 for our 16+ members where will be taking a cast of up to 30 for a very exciting production at an amazing new venue in the area. Having a cast of 16+ has allowed us to explore a few more tackling shows and we know this hit musical will go down very well with our wonderful supporters and our members! All information for our 16+ show will be announced on WEDNESDAY!! The second show will be in December 2018 for members aged 12-15. We really wanted to provide our younger members with a chance to develop their performance skills further in 2018 and with a show full of parts this will really give them a chance to shine! Not only will they have more opportunity to take on bigger roles within a production but it gives us chance to welcome up to 30 under 16 members that we don't normally have the space to do! All information for our under 16 show will be announced on FRIDAY!! So who can guess what shows we will be producing in 2018 then? ***LICHFIELD YOUTH THEATRE NEWS: NEW YEAR, NEW NAME*** Happy New Year to all our followers and supporters! After 15 wonderful years as Lichfield Garrick Youth Theatre (or LGYT) we’ve decided it is time to update our name - from 1st January 2018 we will now be known as LICHFIELD MUSICAL YOUTH THEATRE (LMYT for short)! We began in 1985 originally as Lichfield Youth Theatre performing at venues all around Lichfield and then adopted the “Garrick” into our name when it opened 15 years ago as it became our home. We have always been completely independent from the theatre and have found that still having Garrick in our name sometimes makes this unclear so we feel now that the time is right for a change as we enter our 33rd year. Over the years we’ve actually performed at many venues including the old Lichfield Civic Hall and the Arts Centre as well as Friary and Nether Stowe High School. We’re see this year as an opportunity to branch out and explore using new, different and exciting venues around the area such as the stunning Lichfield Cathedral for our near SOLD OUT production of Les Miserables later this year at the end of April. We do hope we will be able to perform at the Garrick again at some point in the future and work with their wonderful front of house and backstage team. Don’t worry, other than the name change nothing else is changing. It’s still run by the same wonderful group of professionally trained and talented volunteers so you can expect more of the same outstanding quality, award winning productions from us as we continue to pursue our mission to deliver a professional Musical Theatre experience to the young performers of Lichfield and the surrounding area. Keep an eye on this page for more exciting announcements about our future productions - we have 2 more to fit in this year once Les Miserables is finished, so very exciting times ahead!
