"For the love of cake" I love my job,enjoy interaction between my potential client and myself. It's so exciting when you are asked to create a design for someone's special day. As a bespoke baker I make a design especially to fit you. I plan the cake, I then look at stuff I may need to order (these items are never cheap, you need a small mortgage to keep up with all the trends). I look at the work involved, modelling ,flower making,hand painting,sugar printing etc . look at Ingredients cost, eggs , flour, sugar, butter, flavourings, jams , curds, syrups,sugar paste, modelling pastes,flower pastes, colourings , paints ,chocolate bars , cocoa , chocolate chips, fruit bits, icing sugar... The list can go on forever depending on type of cake ? Then sundries ,electricity, cost of sending a photo ,boards boxes, ribbons etc, petrol, wires , supports , added bits like cake lace or diamonds or degrees etc....(you would fall asleep if I wrote the complete list ) I invest my time and money to buy these products ( as a deposit never covers the costs ) order them,pay delivery costs( that I can not pass on to you) All this is part of my job, A service that I offer you. Then last of all ( this is the best bit..the reason you come to me ) I add my experience,skills but most of all my love and time to everything I make. I worry about whether you will like it, agonise over every little fault I think I can see & quite often roll into bed at 2am finishing your creation(laying awake hoping when you collect it..it's what you dreamed of) waking up at 6am (with match sticks firmly lodged in my eyes ) & do the same tomorrow....all because I love what I do.... I make artistic creations that please the eyes and fill your tummy. So next time a bespoke baker says that 6inch cake you want in a simple design is £45 pounds...think about what your buying.. I am not a factory ..I work alone. I don't use packets or mass produce chemical filled cakes. I am a crafts woman just like a builder or carpenter? I must be insured , registered , have hygiene certificates plus also invest money & time to learn the ever increasing new skills we need to create your dream cake. You are not just buying a bit of flour ..you have brought your very own pastry chef/baker/artist &designer . I love my job ...as bespoke to me means special. A piece of my ❤️goes in everything I do. Another baker kindly let me share this and she is so right. I'm not the cheapest cake decorater around but I'm certainly not the most expensive either. I try to keep my prices reasonable, fair and affordable for everyone. I make cakes to suit all budgets but I also make cakes to bring in that little bit of extra income to help support my family. My cakes are made with my care love and time to make your special.occasion even more special.
