The voting for Britain’s Favourite market is now underway. Anyone can vote and for as many or few markets as they like – traders, customers, stakeholders and other supporters, everyone has a vote. It is a great way to tell people what a good market we have and help to raise its profile to the benefit of all. The voting ends at midnight on Thursday 30th November. The top 6 places with the most votes will be announced on 4th December and will then go through to the Judging round and mystery shopper elements. During the summer months we received a ‘mystery shopper’ visit who independently judged our public toilets in the multi-storey car park and Parson’s Close Recreation Ground. We are delighted for our town as we have maintained our Platinum level of award for the multi-storey toilets and for its first year of being judged, Gold for the park. The Town Council took over the management of the toilets in 2012 when Central Bedfordshire Council proposed their closure under budget savings. The award gives a clear statement that the town is well served by this local facility making people’s visit to the town centre more comfortable. This award does not detract from the need to undertake some basic refurbishment for the multi-storey toilets which is driven by our ongoing facility maintenance activity. This work is to be endorsed by Committee and then delivered over the winter months.
