34th LAMLASH OPEN 147 entrants. Every par 3 with a hole-in-one prize, Main sponsor for 2017 Lamlash Bay Hotel. A MAGNIFICENT START BY NEIL YOUNG. The unpredictable weather for the weekend was rather mixed, Saturday began with a changeable breeze in cool conditions, which improved as the day progressed right into the evening, at least it remained dry. One of the early starters Neil Young had an inspired round carding a scratch 64- par of the course. The evening was rounded off by Toms Disco into the wee hours. The Sunday was a different matter with the early starters having the best of the day, by 1030 a Scottish mist began to form, which rapidly descended into heavy rain, which became a downpour by mid-afternoon. By 1330 players began to walk in, soaked and reported that the 7th was completely waterlogged, making play impossible. Debate ranged from cancellation to postponement, with players adamant that play should continue after a one hour postponement. A further inspection of the course led to a continuation of play by 1415, which was met with a resounding cheer by the players. Credit to the greens staff and the course that the 7th went from a 1” deep pool to being playable within 90 mins. Despite the weather conditions the evening’s presentation was held in front of a packed clubhouse, approximately over 100 in the audience. On completion of the ceremony the floor was cleared and Tom began with his able Disco dancing the night away and sharing Neil’s superb performance in the OPEN. The 34th Open attracted over 155 applications, exceeding the club maximum of 150, however due to personal circumstances and injury; cancellations, dictated an entry of 147. Sunday was a different matter with only 106 going through the computer, but over 140 began play with many who were caught out in the worst conditions having headed home without registering their soaked cards.
