DEFRA registered: I keep small breeding flocks of LF Exchequer Leghorns, Partridge Welsummers & Light Sussex. Also Gold Tops & Pekins.

For many years we have kept hens simply for the pure pleasure of having them around and for the fresh eggs they provide.

Over time our interest has grown and so have the number of birds. We are now DEFRA registered and run small breeding flocks of LF Exchequer Leghorn, Partridge Welsummer & Light Sussex .Also Gold tops & Pekins

Our breeding flocks are closed flocks, carefully selected from our own birds, who are of breed standard and who are bred fit for purpose be it for eggs or meat, also to produce strong, healthy chicks.  Only occasionally do we introduce a new cockerel  to add to the bloodline

We also run a mix flock of traditional heavy breed hens - my faithful broodies who each year between them raise over 100 chicks.

Our birds are kept as naturally as possible, free to range, forage, dustbath, scratch about and raise young.

.All our pure breeds are hatched and reared on site from our own breeding groups, thus reducing the chance of infection and illness.

Our Hybrid birds are fully vaccinated and bought in from highly reputable breeders.

We sell hatching eggs for collection only and are happy to hatch to order from any of our birds. We will also reserve birds for you from day old chicks to P.O.L.

All photos on this page are of our own stock.

Today's mission - other than making sure all the young birds are safe from the fox, is to locate the Indian Game's secret hiding place. She's gone broody and has taken herself off somewhere. Can we find her !! She is at the gate of the pen in the morning waiting for us, has a feed, waits until we go to let out and feed the other birds, then disappears. If we wait and watch her she goes nowhere, the minute we turn our backs, she's gone.If we can find her she can have the guinea fowl eggs due to hatch in just over a weeks time.

A little too close for comfort - a calling card left by a fox on the top step to the nursery pen. Thankfully the pen is surrounded by electric fencing and the young ones are shut into their coops at night. However the little broody is in a small coop in the garden, today we will move her to a safer place.
