Welcome to La Ranchera our exciting new Mexican restaurant in the Lovely South Devon town Kingsbridge in the beautiful South Hams.
My wife Beatriz(Betty) the Chef is a true born and raised Mexican(Mexicana!), Who has a true love of food plus a personality that won my heart! hence the reason I married her!..
La Ranchera the name is a nickname/homage to the wives that stayed at home running the Ranches and their families while their Husband's went off to fight the Mexican revolution in 1910.
La Ranchera will be exciting and different for one good reason, NO TEX-MEX served here.
Our aim at La Ranchera is to introduce Authentic Mexican cuisine with ingredients imported from Mexico.
We also believe very much in using good local produce from local producers to help achieve a truly high and honest standard of cuisine.
Betty and I believe that our menu at La Ranchera will reflect everything that is great about Mexican food in an environment that is open like our kitchen area and our menu that will keep you coming back again and again.
So whether its a Friday night with some friends or a Family out to enjoy some authentic Mexican food, LA RANCHERA welcomes you all!.

A big mexican tradition starts tonight, 9 days before Christmas. We want to share a little of our special memories as children in Mexico. The word posada means "inn" or "shelter" in Spanish, and in this tradition, Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem and their search for a place to stay is re-enacted. It begins with a procession in which the participants hold candles and sing Christmas carols. Sometimes there will be individuals who play the parts of Mary and Joseph who lead the way, or occasionally images representing them are carried. The procession will make its way to a particular home (a different one each night), where a special song (La Cancion Para Pedir Posada) is sung. There are two parts to the traditional posada song. Those outside the house sing the part of Joseph asking for shelter and the family inside responds singing the part of the innkeeper saying that there is no room.The song switches back and forth a few times until finally the innkeeper decides to let them in. The hosts open the door and everyone goes inside. Once inside the house there is a celebration which can vary from a very big fancy party to a small get-together among friends. Often the festivities begin with a short Bible reading and prayer. Then the hosts give the guests food, usually tamales and a hot drink such as ponche or atole. Then the guests break piñatas and the children are given candy.

**IMPORTANT INFORMATION** We've tried to fix a Technical problem with our Cooking equipment since we returned Sunday. However we are extremely sorry to say it's taking much longer to fix. We are in good progress but until we repost Betty and the team are very sorry to say we are currently having to stay CLOSED😢😢. We apologise for letting our lovely customers down we feel terrible however this is beyond our control. We would appreciate your support and understanding during this time.
