Craft Originale :- This beer is a traditional heavy / best bitter. Named after Pettycur principally because I like to walk by the harbour along the beach towards Burntisland but also because some of the first hops to make beer in Fife (as opposed to ale) were landed at the harbour - the landing fee being 4d (old money) for each pocet of hops & 6d for each hogshead of ale, porter or beer.
Craft Originale :- Although this is a new beer, historically over 200 years ago various Fife towns were famous for their nut brown ales. Kinghorn had a number of breweries - the last one to close in around 1850 was on the Overgate at the head of Birrels Wynd - some of the old yard walls can still be seen today. The beer itself is a traditional brown ale - don't know why it has fallen out of fashion because it has a complex malty taste from the large dose of brown malt balanced by traditional floral / earthy hops.
Craft Originale :- Whilst I was brewing this beer the Steelers Wheel song "Stuck in the middle with you" was on the radio. Coincidentally The Crown is also known by the locals as "The Middle" as it is halfway down Kinghorn High St. So a no brainer! The beer itself is a light hoppy session beer with a large hit of Citra & Sorachi Ace hops.
