This includes mobilisation,organisation and tasking of adequate resources to respond to persons in distress at see or to persons at risk of injury or death on the cliffs or shoreline of the United Kingdom



General Information

HM Coastguard are a Category 1 Emergency Responder alongside the Police Fire and Ambulance Services and are tasked via the 999/112 Emergency System.

Although Government funded through the department for Transport (TfT) via the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), we all give our time voluntarily to assist in Maritime,Coastline and also inland emergencies.

We are a 9 person team consisting of 2 females and 7 males and are all fully trained for Cliff Rescue,Mud Rescue,Water Rescue and Lost Person Searches. We cover West end of Kirkcaldy to Stirling and train regularly with our surrounding teams Leven,South Queensferry and Fisherrow. We are often called on to assist our fellow teams.

We regularly work and train alongside Fire,Police,Ambulance and RNLI to affect a better Emergency Response for those in need.

***CALLOUT*** 17:02hrs. Paged to Kinghorn. Report of a small vessel with 3 persons on board in difficulty. Kinghorn RNLI Lifeboat was launched and searched the area and it was confirmed that the only vessel in the area was a dive boat from Burntisland. The first informant also confirmed this when they saw the Lifeboat along side the vessel. All were stood down and returned to station. This was a False Alarm With Good Intent. (FAWGI) Brian McM, Nikki, Dougie, Jim & Brian P responded from Kinghorn Coastguard Team.

***CALLOUT*** 13:45hrs. Whilst out on patrol in Leven Area, we were tasked to Dalgety Bay. A small rib with 2 persons on board had engine difficulties in South Queensferry area. South Queensferry RNLI were tasked who were also on exercise, took the casualty on tow and returned the vessel to Dalgety Bay. No one on board required medical assistance. Both rescue services returned to stations. Ewan, Dougie & Brian McM were in attendance from Kinghorn Coastguard Team.

***CALLOUT*** 11:31 Paged by Aberdeen MRCC to a broken down yacht off Inchkeith island. Kinghorn ILB was launched to assist the vessel which was sailing to peterhead. Casualty was towed into Burntisland sailing club where it was moored and allow the skipper to arrange alternative means to get it back to its home port. Many thanks to Kenny Wilson and all at BSC for the hospitality and assistance afforded to the crew. Ewan, Ian, Dougie & Brian responded from Kinghorn CRT.

***CALLOUT***12:55. Vessel aground at slipway at Burntisland. When on scene, it was quickly established that due to the falling tide, we would be unable to assist in refloating the vessel without causing damage. It was agreed with the owner he will wait with the vessel until the tide comes back to refloat. Kinghorn ILB was also in attendance. Ewan & Ian responded from Kinghorn CRT.

***CALLOUT ***08:41, paged to assist police Scotland with a search for a missing female in the Granton area. Met with the Queensferry team at Cramond foreshore and searched to marine drive, Granton. Nothing found. Update from police Scotland, that female had made contact with a family member, and were satisfied person was safe and well, stood down and returned to station. Ewan responded from Kinghorn CRT.

***CALLOUT*** 08:05 paged to attend to a report of of an upturned vessel in the braefoot bay area, nothing found. After a search of the surrounding area, a 25 ft yacht was located on rocks at the high water mark, close to St bridget's church. Yacht had broken its mooring from dalgety bay SC. Yacht was secured and owner traced by speaking with a member of the sailing club . yacht was refloated on the high tide later in the day. Dougie, Ian and Brian responded from Kinghorn CRT.

***CALLOUT*** 18:13. Paged to assist South Queensferry ILB with a broken down vessel in St Davids bay. The ILB towed the small boat with 2 persons on board to the town pier, North Queensferry, where the vessel was recovered. Both persons were uninjured, no medical assistance required. Whilst en route back to Kinghorn, Aberdeen MRCC tasked us to proceed to Dysart where a small dinghy was reported to be in difficulty approx 200 yards offshore. Kinghorn ILB was launched to search offshore whilst we searched Dysart harbour, Kirkcaldy harbour and esplanade to Seafield, nothing found. After speaking with people shoreside, it was concluded that no vessel was in difficulty and all resources were stood down. Ewan, Ian and Brian responded.

***CALLOUT*** 18:03, 31/08. Paged to assist police Scotland with a search for a missing male in the Culross area. Person found safe and well, Dougie, Nikki & Brian responded from Kinghorn CRT.

***CALLOUT*** 14:51. Paged to Aberdour, report of person injured on Coastal Path. Our team quickly located the injured female who had fallen off her mountain bike. She was complaining of neck and back injuries. Scottish Ambulance Crew administered pain relief and we stretchered her to the awaiting ambulance. The Special Operations Response Team (SORT) arrived on scene along with our colleagues from South Queensferry Coastguard Team. The casualty was stabilised and transported to the Victoria Hospital.
