Alder Arts offers a wide selection of period and modern fine paintings, as well as conservation, restoration and framing services. At only 12 miles from Inverness, our two galleries in the Highlands of Scotland specialises in 18th-19th century oils on canvas, etchings, engravings, watercolours and pastels in one, and modern/contemporary art and sculptures in the other. Visiting the shop, or the website, you will discover an array of Scottish listed painters, French and European artists' quality work.
Not only operating as a gallery, we also have a qualified workshop, where we can advise you on your framing and take the best care of your paintings with a respect to conservation and restoration.
As members of the IIC (International Institute for Conservation), we aim to protect, restore and conserve your paintings and frames to a museum quality standard. We deal with all types of supports and all period paintings, restoring the integrity, stability and legibility of your damaged art.
With the experience of more than 38 years, we will advise you to choose the right framing for your picture, from traditional to modern, unique and personal frames made with conservation-acid free materials.
Additionally, we also offer a printing service for artists, photographers and retail thanks to our 12 cartidge / A0 Canon printer.

It's here!!! The arrival of 'Passage of Night' by James Byrne took us by surprise a little... We could do with an extra wall to show off this 'wee' beauty! James Byrne is a Birmingham painter and has had a studio practice in the city since completing his M.A. in painting at Birmingham College of Art in 1982. His work has been included in a number of important shows and he had a one man show at the IKON gallery in 1986. He was in the Ikon 21st birthday show touring to Hong Kong and also in English Expressionism at the Warwick Arts Trust, London where he showed with, amongst others, John Walker, Gillian Ayres, Bert Irvin and Terry Setch. He was included in Bill Gear and Friends at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, the Jerwood Drawing Prize and was recently selected for the 2014 John Moores Painting Prize Exhibition in Liverpool. He has work in the Warwick Arts Trust permanent collection as well as that of Birmingham Museum, the IBM Collection and St. Thomas' Hospital, London. **New Painting Alert** (well, 7 new paintings actually, 3 x bronzes, and a collection of pottery which dates back 5000 years!) Next week we will have this abstract oil by James Byrne gracing our walls. The size is quite astonishing at 202cm x 184cm and we haven't a clue where it's going to go, so If you're looking for an exceptionally painted piece of modern, abstract art, come and have a look! Harry John Pearson R.B.A. 1872 - 1933 'Study of a Girl' Oil on canvas Harry John Pearson was known mainly for his portrait and figure subjects, especially of children and society women, many of which were illustrated in periodicals of the day such as The Illustrated London News; Homes and Gardens; Colour Magazine and Women's Pictorial. He trained at the Royal Academy Schools and spent some time working in the Netherlands prior to Worlds War 1. He exhibited work at the Royal Academy 1916 - 1927 (7 works); Royal Society of British Artists (147 works); Royal Institute of Oil Painters (19 works); Dudley Gallery (2 works); Fine Art Society (2 works); Goupil Gallery (3 works); International Society (3 works); Royal Society of Portrait Painters (4 works) and Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool (3 works). He was elected a full member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1915 and later became President of the Langham Sketch Club. He was asked by Princess Marie Louise to provide a miniature painting for Queen Mary's famous doll house. He lived in Ealing, West London and died in 1933. His work in represented in the National Museum and Wales and Wycombe Museum, Buckinghamshire.
