To all our equine clients, Just a note to inform you that we offer a faecal egg count service for only £14.58 (incl. VAT) per horse. This is a service we would strongly recommend to all our clients to ensure you are not over-worming your horses and at the same time saving money! All we need is a very fresh poo sample, (please mix and crumble the whole faecal pile together – using an old lollipop stick is helpful! and then grab one handful from the centre of this pile) gloves are advisable..! One of our equine vets will then examine the faeces under a microscope to count and identify the worm eggs that are present. You will then receive a phone consultation from the vet discussing whether you need to worm your horse or not, and if worming is necessary then advice on which wormer will most efficiently treat the worms your horse is suffering with. During this discussion the vet will also be able to give helpful tips individual to you and how your horse is managed, on how to reduce the chance of your horse suffering with worms. If you are a yard owner and would like to discuss and possibly create an annual worming plan then please do not hesitate to contact our equine vet Cordelia. Please feel free to drop the samples off to our Maple Street Hospital on a Monday or Tuesday. If it is more convenient to drop the samples off at one of our 5 branch surgeries then please do so on a Monday. However if a Monday or Tuesday is not suitable for you then please just ring our Maple street hospital and ask to speak to Cordelia who will find a day that suits both parties.
