Hi all hope you are enjoying the sunshine.. Unfortunately, due to an open evening at Kings tonight, there will be no Ottery classes today. We were going to hold the classes outside instead but im sure you'll agree that it would not be wise for anyone to train outside in this heat, let alone children. I look forward to seeing you all at West Hill School on Saturday where we will have a short class before performing a display, flyering and fundraising for this year's international tournament in London. All are welcome and feel free to bring family & friends to support you. Those who would rather not be part of the display can help distribute flyers and raise money. Your support is very much appreciated... Meeting at 1:15pm, display is 1:45-2:15pm, followed by fundraising and flyering. Beech Park, West Hill, Ottery Saint Mary EX11 1UQ

Sensei David Lewis R.I.P. Dear Students, Parents & Friends of SYTL Karate. It is with great sadness that I write this post to inform you of the passing of Sensei David Lewis on Tuesday 20th May 2019. As with his teacher, and mine, Shihan Leo Lipinski, most of you did not have the opportunity to meet Sensei David in person, however, I would like you to know that he had a huge part to play in the Karate that you are learning today through SYTL. I first met David back in 2009 at the Edgware dojo of Shihan Leo Lipinski's Karate Centre. He was the only instructor at the time and taught all of the 3 classes per week that were running. He took me for my first ever class in traditional Goju Ryu and in total, has taught me for a longer duration of time than any other. We immediately got on and from that day, worked hand in hand for the next 6yrs with the single focus to grow the Karate Centre across London and pass on Shihan Leo's methods and coaching to as many people as possible. Over the next 3 years, we had grown the club to 52 classes per week across 5 locations, and with nearly 2000 students training every week. What I remember the most about Sensei David was his absolute dedication, and unwavering professionalism as a Sensei. He was the ultimate role-model and changed the lives of thousands of people through his teaching. Sensei David was a true Karate-ka and this showed in his devastating speed and great power, which I was blessed enough to be on the receiving end of on numerous occasions. As with Shihan Lipinski, Sensei David will live on for generations to come through us and we must strive now to honour their memory and expect the highest standards from both ourselves, our students, and all those who come after. With a heavy heart my thoughts, prayers and strength go out to Davids family and loved ones. And to all of you who had the privilege to have such a true gentleman in their lives. Rest In Peace David Teacher Role Model Friend

I would like to say a huge congratulations to SYTL Karate student Oliver Ferris for being selected to represent ENGLAND at International level by the EGKF yesterday as part of the England Squad. Massive well done to an outstanding student. Although Ollie posesses a natural talent, there were 30 other karateka from all over the UK competing for his place with equal ability, all from great clubs led by fantastic senseis. Shihan Ben Craft and Shidoin Patrik Visnovsky both said that the thing that set him apart was his character, humility and unparalelled thirst to improve. There are so many other SYTL Students with these traits, including the others who attended the training yesterday. I very much look forward to all of you fulfilling your potential. Oss WELL DONE OLLIE
