Hawick diners can now enjoy delicious Indian Chinese cuisine, with the opening of the town's first restaurant of its kind. The Taj Restaurant and Bar is a brand new eaterie just opened in Teviot Crescent, breathing new life and tastes into the former Gretel Bar with tempting menus – and a current special offer of 15% discount off the total bill. Indian Chinese cuisine is the adaptation of Chinese seasoning and cooking techniques to South Asian tastes. It is widespread in certain localities in India, and is also enjoyed by Indian and Chinese communities in the Far East. And new proprietor Megha Kandal, who has moved to Hawick from a busy restaurant in Edinburgh with business partner Bissan Sindrandad, told The Hawick Paper: “We opened on September 6 and things are going really well. We would say to the people of Hawick to come and give us a chance to serve you. My curry chef has 25 years' experience and Chinese chef 12 years; they are both very knowledgeable.” And highlighting the dishes which they hope will keep customers coming back, he added: “The crispy duck, barbecue ribs, chicken tikka masala and lamb bhuna all have to be tried. We look forward to welcoming everyone.” The restaurant is also now offering a three-course lunch for £6.99.
