It’s a winning start for the Wanderers as they put Hamilton to the sword in a 136-0 victory in 70 minutes of game time at home. Hamilton did a great job in what is their first ever league game and we loved being part of a little bit of your history! MATCH PREVIEW - GWRFC v Hamilton This Sunday Greenock Wanderers Ladies kick off their 2019-2020 league campaign at Home to Hamilton Ladies in what will be the team's first competitive match since lifting the National Women's Bowl at Silver Saturday. The mood in the camp has never been higher than it currently is and the games just can't come quick enough for the Greenock girls these days. With more players available than the squad can carry by SRU rules, it was a tough decision for spots on the team this week, with many girls putting their hands up to earn their shirts on the squad. Up front hard-running, athletic props Hannah Grace and Seonaidh Hayton knuckle down either side of the outstanding Sophie Hicks at hooker. This imposing front-row trio will form the front line of offense, supported in behind by last year's Coaches' Player of the Season Cat Guertsen and impressive newcomer Michelle Lyle in the boiler house. Completing the pack are the well renowned and talented back row of Emma Grace, Anne Thomson and the bulldozing Tina Hemphill at Number 8. The backs division is a familiar set up with very little change from the successful backs line which ran in no less than 10 tries at Silver Saturday. Pulling the strings at the axis will be the newly united Captaincy partnership of Bev Addison at scrum half and Hannah Mutton at fly half. These two familiar faces will be looking to sprinkle a bit of razzle-dazzle on the pitch on Saturday as they orchestrate proceedings both on and off the pitch from the axis. They will not be short of options as the outside backs have a plethora of speed and power to choose from, with sisters Erin and Caitlyn Haldane continuing their formidable centre partnership. They will be supported by speedy and elusive wingers Carolanne Calderwood and Melissa Hutcheson, with the ever-imposing Lesley Cadenhead completing the lineup at Fullback. The impact players forming the replacements are equally as strong as their counterparts, with front-rows MT Crumlish and Diane Hughes providing forward cover, and Erin Marner, Heather Crossley and Sam Irvine ready to show the adoring Greenock crowd what they're made of when they slot into the back line. Those with a good memory for GWRFC history will note that this team sheet contains not one, not two but EVERY Greenock Ladies Captain since the team was started. How's that for dedication to the cause! As ever, there will no doubt be a string of loyal supporters on the sidelines at Fort Matilda on Sunday to cheer the girls on. Why not come along and support the ladies in their quest for their first ever league title. Kick off is at 2pm, Fort Matilda main pitch. #redyellowblack
