It was designed by the prolific theatre architect Frank Matcham and opened in 1904. The King’s plays host to show-stopping musicals straight from Broadway and the West End as well as providing a platform for flourishing amateur dramatic groups. The annual King’s pantomime is a firm family favourite and over the years has featured Scottish greats including Stanley Baxter, Jimmy Logan, Rikki Fulton, Elaine C. Smith and Gerard Kelly. More recently comedy stars Karen Dunbar and Gavin Mitchell have had audiences rolling with laughter in the aisles and kept the magic of the King’s traditional panto alive. The King’s also stages a variety of comedy, drama and kids’ entertainment.
