How Glushu helps horses with a fear of shoeing. A fear of shoing is a very real problem for many horses and their owners. Mr Snip’s owner, Shan-louise Simpson, came to Glushu with a very upset horse, here is what she said at the time... "I have owned Mr Snip for three years and I have never been able to hack him out more than once a week and even then I had to be very careful where I took him!! Mr Snip has very sensitive feet and cannot go barefoot so he has been wearing traditional nail on shoes. Unfortunately Mr Snip hates being nailed and would always need to be sedated in order to get his shoes fitted. The whole experience could be very upsetting for both Mr Snip and myself" Glushus were fitted without the need for sedation and Mr Snip was hacking out every day over rough terrain. Fast forward 3 months and all we can say is WOW! From Shan-louise "Mr Snip has gone from barely being able to hack out to bagging a load of rosettes at Rockrose Equestrian! He is now having his Glushus replaced every 6 weeks with no stress to any of us." Click here to read more about Mr Snip http://www.glushu.com/single-post/2016/07/27/Our-Glushu-winner-Mr-Snip

How Glushu can help horses with brittle or cracked hooves. Dried-out brittle hooves that are inflexible can be very painful, create lameness, and keep a horse from exercising and working properly. The dryness creates a tendency to split and fracture, especially at the points where the shoe is attached by nails. As a consequence, shoes are easily cast, leading to splits in the direction of the horn fibres. These splits run dangerously near sensitive structures in the foot giving rise in many cases to lameness. Even when pronounced lameness is absent, the action in the hoof is affected and the utmost care is required in the shoeing to keep the animal in good shape for work and exercise. When the shoes are pulled and the hooves are left unshod, the hooves may break around the edges, especially when weakened by nail holes. Glushus are non-invasive and allow the hoof to grow protected by the cuff. How Glushu can help horses with bruised or sore feet. A bruised sole can happen as quickly and simply as a horse stepping on a rock or working on a hard surface. It can occur as the result of excessive hoof trimming, or be associated with laminitis. Sole bruising can be an uncomplicated condition that responds to simple treatments, or be part of an underlying disease process that requires careful veterinary management. It is one of the most common causes of forelimb lameness. Glushus will help support the hoof whilst the soreness heals. Special inserts can also be applied. How Glushu can help when you can't nail on a shoe. Many thoroughbreds and retired racehorses have very thin hoof walls which makes it difficult to nail on a shoe. Some hooves can’t tolerate nails. Nails can split a weakened hoof wall, forcing farriers to seek a deeper and higher location for attachment. Unfortunately, this increases the risk of injuring a horse or creating an uncomfortable, tight feeling (nail bound) as the nail must lay very close to sensitive structures. It also should be remembered that nails create holes in the hoof wall. That means even the soundest foot must grow new horn to supply solid hoof wall for the next nailing. Glushus are completely non-invasive thus they do not fall foul of the potential problems inherent with nailing. They allow the horse to lead a normal life without damage to the hoof.
