Academy News - STEM Event Today 8 students from Year 10 and 3 students from Year 9 are taking part in a STEM event aimed at young men over at the Bognor Regis Campus of the University of Chichester. Their morning session saw the students working with a group from the 'Bloodhound Project'. The project is dedicated to improving a vehicle to not only go faster than the speed of sound (supersonic) but to travel at speeds of over 1,000mph (1,600km/h), which is incredible! Check it out... http://www.bloodhoundssc.com/project/car Our students were really engaged with this and represented us extremely well. They were then set a challenge to design a vehicle that could hold an air compressor, where both the design and function were assessed. Students also had to record the distance and time their vehicles could travel in - the fastest vehicle wins. They are in competition with another school of Year 10 and Year 11 students. The prize is to have their group name on the fin of the actual final Bloodhound vehicle... to be a part of history! Fingers crossed - results are in after lunch. They are now working through another challenge before lunch. More updates to come!

Academy News - Art & Textiles Trip Update Today 40 Year 10 Art & Textiles students attended a day of inspirational workshops at Reading University. The students were extremely well behaved and represented the Academy with great attitudes to learning. The work that all students have created will be counted towards their coursework for their GCSEs. All students have developed new found skills that will widen their artistic knowledge and abilities. The students were then treated to an artist talk by the Fine Art Stone Sculptor McAlistair Hood, who is a current artist in residence. They could not believe that he worked in bare foot and the blocks of stone he creates his work from. It was evident to see the students were truly inspired. Miss Carter-Hearn would like to thank all students and staff for making it another extremely pleasurable learning experience. Our thanks to Reading University for hosting a most enjoyable day.

Academy News - Year 8 & 9 Girls Football Last night, the Year 8 and 9 girls football team had their first football match against Brune Park. The game was supposed to be at Fareham but with our field being flooded the fixture was changed to being away. Brune Park have 5 team players, and 2 players that play for Hampshire Centre of Excellence. Fareham have 3 team players, and unfortunately had to play without a number of really strong Year 9 players due to other commitments. Elena Butcher was captain as she has recently got into the Hampshire Schools Representative team, and her first game is tomorrow night, a great opportunity and achievement for her. Brune Park scored an early goal with a long range shot beating the goal keeper, Nicole Richmond (Year 7) playing up a year group. Fareham then settled in their positions, and had 3 really good chances to score, with Abi Howard, Caitlin Roberts and Elena Butcher all coming close. Brune Park then took their chances and scored a further 3 goals before half time. At the start of the second half, Nicole Richmond came out on pitch and Jasmine Thurling went in goal. Fareham had the larger share of possession and again had a number of chances to score goals, but unfortunately the Brune Park keeper was on fire and kept saving them all! Fareham ended up losing the game 9-0, with Saffy Taylor receiving player of the match from the other team. A special mention has to go to Elena Butcher, who throughout the game continued to encourage and support her team mates, even when they were making mistakes and losing silly goals, she showed a brilliant attitude.
